?? Just 25 years ago, we had none of these. How did we do it?? Think how often, and how much a part of our daily lives are involved with those three means of communication.

It used to be mostly this.

I often think about that at work. I am a waitress on the weekends and I remember just 10 years ago, everything was written by hand. Now we use a computer and food goes to the kitchen, drinks to the bar, tax and totals figured out with a press of a buttton. It really stinks when those computers go down though!

Boy, that's for sure Dan. Which brings a question to mind....if there were no PC's, i.e., no DIS board  , what would DISers being doing now instead of DISing?

They've come to be an essential part of our existences, but not always for the better.

Use of E-Mail has in some ways depersonalized relationships in some of my work settings. I'm "in" communication with a number of people whom I often don't "see" anymore. We also now have "condolence" threads of sympathy when an employee loses a family member; what ever happened to a hug and a card????

I don't think I could imagine my life without all this. First of all neither my husband nor I would be employed in our fields and all of the work that I did in college would never have happened as well. I couldn't even try to imagine doing even some of my work w/o all those you mentioned. I have to admit though, even through all this... I still enjoy picking up a piece of paper and a pen or pencil and just writing :)

That's a dreadful thought Dan:D

The new generation has it easy now. They have all the resources they need right at their fingertips! I wonder if they know how hard we had it going to the library, payphone, bank etc.

Though I'm the biggest proponent of technology, the "just in time" convenience sometimes seems to foster self-centerdness...pick up your messages and turn your phone on!!! Ohh...:o.

What's a fax?;)

THe words, "Sorry I can't get that information for you. Our computers are down at the moment." would be non existent!!!

And all the information that is so easy to get in a split second!!!

Plus think of all the people who met over the internet!!

I could live without the Cell Phone and the fax. But NOT the PC!!

I remember when only doctors or rich people had pagers and cell phones (we called them "car phones" then!) It seems so funny now!

It makes me wonder what is out there now that will become essential to us in 25 years? I will "only" be 68 then. Wonder if I will embrace the new technology or refuse to move into the '20s? :teeth:

I would miss the PC and the enjoyment it brings. But i dont own a cell phone or pc and rarely if ever use thems o they dont bother me, except obnxious cell phone users!!!

I know I don't need a fax.

I probably don't need a computer, although my children definitely do.

I am so grateful for a cell phone. With my kids going their fathers every other weekend, they can always get in touch with me.

And when they start dating! I can't wait to use that cell phone, LOL!

Could I live without them, yes...but they are very convient. Before they all came out I watched alot of tv and listened to the radio. Sometimes I miss those days.

I've never used a fax machine, and I just got my first cellphone a few months ago. but I can hardly remember what life was like without the internet! I just love it. But I have to agree with one thing- getting letters by snailmail is much more exciting than email! I used to have tons of penpals and would get letters almost every day. I saved all those letters in a big bin. They were so fun. My penpals would send fancy stationery, Disney trading cards, stickers, drawings, photos, slam books, etc. I loved opening them, and I really miss getting them. Email may be easier and faster, but nothing beats having something you can actually hold in your hands.
