What if you get to your resort and a room isn't ready. Do they assign you a room and then once you offically check in give you keys or what. We will be getting there pretty early on our next trip and we have never had to wait for a room.

Do they let us pick out of a couple that will be available?

If you have a pre-assigned room and it isn't ready, they will give you your Key to the World Card (which is also your room key) and a little card with a phone number on it. You can call that number at any time to check and see if your room is ready or not. If it is, they will give you the room number over the phone and you can go right to the room and your KTTWC will work in the door. They will ot provide you with the room number if it's not ready. If they have a couple of rooms that are ready, they may give you a choice of one if you ask.

Have fun.

So when we get there and if a room isn't ready or if one that we want will be availble later we can just tell them that and they will pre assign us to a room.

I was just worried we got there early and one wasn't ready and we left to go to the parks and came back late that the guest that came after us might get the room we wanted because it came availble while they were there and we weren't. (if that makes any sense)

Odds are, they've assigned you a room (or at least a small range of rooms based on view, etc. if applicable). When you check in, they will assign you a room for sure. As the previous poster said, if you're room isn't ready they'll offer to hold your luggage and give you a card to call to check on your room.

My mom just visited SSR this week (Sunday night) and got the card, though they messed up. Room was to be ready by 5pm (seems late) and wasn't. At 5:00pm they said Housekeeping would call her... they didn't. She ended up getting a $50 credit for use in WDW.

Anyway, you should be assigned a room unless you ask to move to a more readily available room (if available and in the same "view" or point category). Whether or not you checking in gets them to cleaning the room quicker, I can't say.
