What if Resort Wheelchair Goes Missing

We are going to WDW in December and plan on getting a wheelchair from Pop Century for my Mom so that she doesn't get too tired walking around the parks (she's 81). I'm just wondering what happens if a resort wheelchair goes missing. I know if you have a rental from the theme park, that they will replace it for you, but not sure if it is the same for resort wheelchairs. Would we be responsible for the cost of the wheelchair? Also, should we bring a bike lock from home to lock the wheelchair or are they available from the resort? Thanks for any info you can give me.

I'm sure someone who has borrowed one will answer your question, but from what people have posted in the past, you will be provided with a bike lock so that you can lock up the wheelchair if she is not in it. Just keep in mind that you can't lock it to anything (the CMs need to be able to move it for fire, evacuation and just plain keeping things orderly reasons.
If you haven't already looked, there is a FAQs link at the top of the board that should help with questions.

I've borrowed a wheelchair from All Stars but never had it taken, so I can't really answer that question. As I recall, I had to put a deposit down on the wheelchair, so I would think I would lose it if it disapeared. If you have a bicycle lock, pack it with you. But remember to not lock the w.c. to something, just lock up the wheels.

We've borrowed wheelchairs from the AKL on two occasions. We put down a deposit to cover the cost of the chair and were given a lock to use. Have fun!

A limited supply of wheelchairs is available at Guest Services. They are complimentary, but do require a $250 deposit. This deposit is waived if a credit card is on your reservation for charging purposes. The $250 will only be charged if the wheelchair is not returned. These wheelchairs are rented on a first-come first-served basis, and cannot be reserved.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had read many stories of people having their strollers go missing and was worried that this might happen with a wheelchair. Doesn't sound like it will be a problem, but we'll take a bike lock just in case.

POR gave us a chain and lock to use, but after the first day we didn't bother very often, unless we would be away from the chair for a long time.

i haven't read here of anyone's resort wc getting taken; however, i was advised at the brookfield zoo (in chicago area) that teenagers will take rental wc's at times for "joy rides". don't see this happening much at wdw.

enjoy your trip!
