I wasn't sure how to word this to do a search but here is a scenario I was thinking about. What if I bought 100pts at two different DVC resorts with the idea of vacationing every other year and using about 200 pts for each stay. However, what if a stay at my chosen resort is slighting over the 200 can you purchase a few points for one time use or pay the difference? If you did this does it effect when you can make the reservation? What if you purchase points (or is it having points transferred?) from someone else who is DVC to add to yours for a single stay?

Thank you guys for your help in understanding all the particulars. I have read many of the links posted and tons of posts and will try to limit questions. By nature I'm a "value" person who wants the best deal but I also like my deluxe resort stays and am unsure about giving them up and if it is worth it. Speaking of that one more question is how much would it be to add a cleaning service to a stay?

If you don't want to borrow points from your next UY (or don't have points available to borrow), DVC allows you to purchase up to 24 one-time-use points per use year. They cost $15/point. This option is only available at 7 months or less from your desired check-in date.

think of home resort priority as requiring the right "currency."

if you want to book SSR at 11 months, you need SSR pts. they can be banked, current or borrowed SSR pts from a SSR contract that you own...or they can be SSR pts transferred in from another owner's SSR contract. but if you transfer pts from a BLT contract owned by someone else, you would not be able to combine those BLT pts with your SSR pts to book SSR at 11 months but would have to wait till the 7 month window. so depending on your plans, you may need a specific resort's pts for transfer...

as stated, if you only need 24 or fewer pts and are ok with booking 7 months out, you can get the pts directly from disney.

You can also drop the one night on points and pay cash for that missing night. But some room categories are not available for cash, even from MS.

It would be easier if you purchased enough points to usually stay where you want every other year by banking or borrowing.

Buy 100 points AKV, bank into 2012 for 200 point stay at AKV booking at 11 months. Buy 100 points BLT in 2012, bank into 2013 for a 200 point stay at BLT booking at 11 months. Even years stay at AKV, odd years stay at BLT.
