Does anyone else have Delta tickets for this summer to Orlando and are like I am "getting nervous" with all of the strike and shut down talk???? I read a little on Mousesavers today about it. Our tickets are for the end of Sept. I would like opinions.....I stressed over making them this early now I am stressing over what if they are worthless by the end of Sept. Give me your honest thoughts!!!!!!!!! Will they strike or even close down operations??? :confused3

I have Delta tickets for July, and maybe I should be worried, but I can't believe we're going to lose our money. Something is going to work out. This thread may be moved over to the transportation board, so before it does I want to say I'm traveling with 7 people in my party, and if we lose that airfare...again, call me naive, but I don't think it's going to happen. I know it would be a mini disaster if we have to buy new tickets on a different airllines. We wont! :thumbsup2

If the pilots go on strike, go to your nearest Delta ticket desk within 48 hours and request to be moved to another airline. They are obligated to do this, as reported on Mousesavers.com

my boyfriend's stepdad (who is retired from delta) said the same thing. they can't just say, hey, too bad for you!

also, he said that it's highly doubtful that they will go on strike. apparently the mediator that they have between the pilots and the management is horrible, which is why nothing has come to a conclusion yet.

i was informed this is not true. You have to wait 48 hrs before your flight is scheduled to leave on Delta to get rebooked on another airline.Dont know for sure but this is my understanding of this.I was gonna do the same thing and go down to Will Rogers Airport in OKC but was informed by the boards here that that is not the case. You must wait before your scheduled departure to rebook.Sorry!!!

My understanding is- if your flight is scheduled WHILE they are on strike- it is too bad for you. The other airlines have no obligation to help (Although I think some of them may choose to help you- they are not obligated)
BUT if the airline folds- there is a regulation that states other airlines that are 1. flying the same route and 2. have availablility must accomodate you with a seat and can charge a fee not to exceed $50 per ticket.

I'm going to think positively too! We have 4 tickets on Delta in June, so we are getting a little nervous. I just hope they can come up with a win-win situation. The speculation on the street is that, if the pilots strike, Delta will fold. I can't believe that they would want all of the Delta employees to lose their jobs.

We were to leave on Delta on April 19th and come home on the 29th. Of course I was very nervous...we booked the tickets through frequent flier miles with NWA...when I called questioning what would happen I was told that you could be charged up to $50 per ticket per way to get changed to a new airline if they do strike. I was also told you could have to fly all over the US to end up in Orlando. And the lady said that the other airlines will help out but there are only so many planes.

Luckily, I called and was able to switch my tickets off of Delta to NWA and we actually got what we wanted so it worked out much better!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE...hold out hope...it worked out with NWA, I am sure it will for Delta!

#2 is the key here. The other airlines only have to accomodate you if they have availability, which is in increasingly short supply these days. You would basically almost be like a stand-by passenger. Personally, I wouldn't book Delta right now until the strike possibility (at least this round) is resolved, which I understand is supposed to be next week sometime.

how did u achieve this? What type of price difference did u have to pay to be able to do this?I would be willing to give up my non stop flight for connecting flights just to be over this stress i have been under for over a week now.thanks,

We had this same issue when Midway went under. We actually had tickets with Midway to go to DW and then they decided to close for good. We were able to get seats on Southwest immediately. I believe SW just charged us $25.00 a person to move us over to their flights. Of course this was awhile ago when this occurred, so it could cost more these days. We also were told, back then, that we couldn't do anything about changing our plane tickets until Midway folded.
Hope it all works out for you guys!

We booked our tickets using NWA frequent flier miles. So I just called up NWA and told them just for my piece of mind I wanted to change my flights and they were able to do it. If you booked yours directly through Delta I am not sure if you would be able to. For us luckily it worked out and was $150 to change.

DPayne-you guys are arriving the same day as we are for our second trip!

I just purchased another set of tix from Jetblue. We are flying 5/25. We can always use the jetblue tix for another trip within the year (not hard to do) if Delta doesn't strike/go under. But one thing for sure is I will NEVER fly Delta again. They have switched our flights 3-4 times and never told me I could get a refund (my times were switched 1 1/2 - 2 hours each way). When I called to complain, they said they are not obligated to offer that information. Nice policy if you ask me. I have been flying for 20 years and always flew Delta, but their service the past few years has been dissapointing. This was just the straw that broke the camels back. Looks like it will be Jetblue or SW from now on :sad2:

well phooey thanks for your reply.I booked with Delta on 2 tickets and Expedia.com for 2 tickets,i know weird right.Well i have been paying for this vacation since Jan.so i pay for items a little at a time.LOL.We are actually going to Universal May 21-27 then on to Disney SSR May 27-June 3.My whole trip is paid already including spending money so i am so upset about Delta i could just kick myself.I was going to book SW but went for Delta due to convenience of Nonstop flying w/3 kids myself.Oh well heres hoping a decision will be made soon so i can rebook somewherre else if they go down.I dont think i want to fly standby as it does not sound fun to me w/kids!!

Well good luck...I seriously doubt that they will strike so I am sure all of this was everyone jsut worrying!

Not exactly...

They are obligated to move you IF they are on strike. So if they go on strike on 4/17 and you aren't flying until 5/17 they don't have to move you until MUCH closer to 5/17 becasue "the strike will be setlled by then" When AA went on strike several years ago they literally would wait until the plane was cancelled to rebook. ANd they lived in some fairy tale world where the FAs were going to cross the picket line and come to work, never happened....

Also, prepare to be on hold for HOURS and prepare for REALLY long lines at the airport. There will be no online check for those of you moved.

Now if they are on strike for longer then about 48 hours assume they will go bankrupt. New rules apply then.

A few years ago when the Comair pilots went on strike just as my trip started, I was put onto a Continental flight. Then on my way home I first was confirmed on a Delta flight then as I walked to my gate I got paged to report to the nearest Delta agent for an important message. Only to find out I needed to be reticketed for a Continental flight.
Don't worry. Remember if you paid for your tickets with a credit card, you may be protected by your credit card company and you may not have to pay for those tickets or you could be eligable for a refund. Call the credit card company.

what if you wait too long to see what happens and you can't fly out when you need to because they are booked?

You may be inconvienced a bit but they will get you to your arrival point. They may route you through an unplanned city. Example you have booked a non stop flight but they can not or do not fly non stops to your destination therefore you will more than likely fly through one or two connecting city.
I really would not panic. If you panic you will only use up unneccesary energy that you will need for your trip once you get there.

REMEMBER whatever happens go with the flow. Be calm cool and collective. Dont and I repeat DONT take it out on the customer service person who is trying their hardest to get you to your destination. Kill them with kindness and you will have a happy trip.
