What if 1 person decides to skip ADR?

We have a friend coming with us to Disney over Spring Break and we are trying to get our dining reservations done. We planned this late so we are kind of going with whatever we can find. I was askingo our friend if they had any preferences and their response is to plan whatever because they may not even want to eat with us every night, they may snack too much during the day or return to the hotel earlier than our planned dinner. Is this a problem? Can we make reservations for 3 people and only 2 of us show up? I don't want to get a charge as if you didn't cancel the reservation. Anyone had experience with this? I imagine this happens often and it is only 1 person not showing up.

You will have no issues. Now I have to plan for a group of 8 and what I told them was I had to pay if they did not show up so meal skipping is banned.

will not be a problem unless ADR is for a prepaid meal,ie a dinner show

And that is not always the case. I had gotten sick during a family trip a couple of years ago and couldn't make it to HDDR. My parents had no issue getting a full refund for my ticket.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. You didn’t know you would not be charged the No Show fee or you lied to them so they show up ?

I think she means that she told them they have to show because if too many don't show she probably would be charged. I doubt they would let half of a big party skip out. I could be wrong.

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

Oh I understand that I will not be charged. I ask the adults where they want to eat a year in advance. And every trip at least one person will say they don't like this place or that and that I never talked to them about it.

I'll almost always call and say "one person in our party got sick." One, to be safe that I don't get charged; two, if you're a party of three taking a 4-top, may as well forfeit the 4-top. It may wind up opening it up for another party.

Yes - no charge to you
Our DS got sick, DH stayed at the resort with him
I took our DD to the Ohana breakfast
DS was not thrilled about Lilo & Stitch anyway.

Our DD had a wonderful time seeing Lilo & Stitch, & doing the parade around the room.
After breakfast, just the two of us instead of a family of 4, we bought food at our resort CS for the "boys",
and then we all went to MK later in the day :)

they will not charge you if you show up without any part of your party. If even only one person shows up from a party of 8 there won't be a no-show charge. The restaurant will change the party size. They won't seat you unless all of your party is present, so you do have to tell them that the party size has decreased.

I do this all the time-show up with one fewer than my reservation, yet I've never been charged. When I go solo, I always make my ADRs for 2 people, just in case I meet someone I'd like to share a meal with (also, it's almost impossible to get ADRs for one at many places). Over about 10 trips, they've never charged me.
