I already know about the Contemporary, but that might not be in my budget when I get to go. I'm just wondering if there are other hotels within walking distance.

You could stay at Wilderness Lodge and then take the boat to the Contemporary and then walk to MK, or you could just take the boat from WL to MK. It's a 5 minute trip.

Just the Contemporary, AFAIK. The Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are less expensive than a monorail resort, and they have boat access to the MK. Wilderness Lodge is the easiest to get around.

There are no other resorts that are close enough to walk to MK. The CR/BLT is the only one.
WDW roadways don't have sidewalks. So, unless a resort is set up with walkways to a park (and there aren't that many) you aren't supposed to be out there walking.

ABSOLUTELY correct. There is no other resort that has a viable walking path to the MK - ONLY the Contemporary has this.

The cheapest/closest to the MK is Fort Wilderness but it's a camp ground. It does have "cabins" but they are pretty close to the cost of a deluxe.

Note most maps you see are not to scale. And as others have posted there are very few sidewalks.

No other resort has a walkway to the MK. The CR does have a garden wing with rooms that are identical to those in the tower, but are less expensive. Most are garden view rooms with lovely views but a few are standard or parking lot views. These are probably the least expensive way to stay at the CR. They do sell out quickly, though. Renting points for BLT might be a way to save some $$$ as well, if you are able to go with the no cancellation and pay up front deal.

Otherwise, your best bet is a boat ride from Fort Wilderness or the Wilderness Lodge to the MK.

It depends on what you qualify as "walking distance." The Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower is technically the only resort with an actual pathway to the MK. Other resorts that reside along the Seven Seas Lagoon consist of the Polynesian Village and the Grand Floridian. However, Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge both have a short and efficient boat ride straight to the main gates of the MK. The monorail is also a quick and reliable form of transportation.

But can you get to the MK from the GF or the Poly by walking? Our friend if joining us this August, and she is a runner. We told her that she couldl run that route but I was told there really is not complete access.

No you can't. They would have to build a bridge over the inlet where they park the EWP floats. The path stops at the waters edge and picks up on the other side of the inlet.

That's what I thought. I told her I was mistaken, but by then I knew it did not matter, she's not running anywhere on vacation! LOL!

Thanks for the clarification! From teh resorts it does look like the pathway is a complete loop.

The transportation system is great ....why walk? Unless you're trying to burn out your FitBit.....

I do think they should think about adding more walking paths, All of Universals Hotels have walking access to the parks. There is no reason why All the monorail hotels and Wilderness lodge can't be connected together, would only need a couple of extra bridges (the waterway between GF and MK, Road crossing from WL and TTC). Biggest issue would be connecting TTC/WL to Contempory.

As with anything...it's always a lot cheaper to build something from the start. When you start adding stuff, to already existing properties, cost goes way up. There are plenty of ways to get from these resorts to the MK. US/IoA resorts are completely different. It would truly be a hike from WL/FtW to the TTC...and to what end? There are no buses there. There is no reason for guests to get to the TTC anymore.

Wilderness Lodge to the TTC would be a 15 minute walk and could then take monorail to Epcot. That would be main advantage.

Unfortunately, the only actual walkway to the MK is through the Contemporary. The other resorts require either a monorail or boat trip to gain access.

But there is no reason to connect them and good reason not to.

- Already multiple transportation options.
- Additional mode of transportation for these resorts not necessary.
- CR already has problem with people trying to park to avoid paying at TTC, no reason to encourage more.
- Cost of building bridges.
- Inlet by GF bridge would have to structurally be able to allow floats out so makes no sense to invest in.
- Cost of maintenance of bridges.
- Disney won't spend that kind of money on things that won't make them money.

Bottom line Disney does not allow walking around property, only in parks and DTD.

The original plan of WDW was to spread everything out so its a far walk to anywhere from most resorts. US was built on one smaller plot of land more like Disneyland.

As for a walk way from the GF to MK, the issue is that there would have to be a fairly high bridge over a waterway that's used by all the boats on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon including the ferries. This walkway would have to have fairly long ramps going up to the 20-30 foot high bridge.

THey could use a draw bridge like at Epcot but everytime it goes up and down CMs have to monitor the area to make sure no one gets hurt.

As well as the cost to illuminate and maintain ...not to mention possible increased liability.
