I want to book a hotel close to the entrance. I know we will be coming back and forth a couple times of day and would prefer to be able to walk vs taking a shuttle.

Would also love to have your suggestions on why you might pick one over another. We are interested in a decent pool. As the kids will want to swim during the day. Hotels I have considered are Portofino Inn & Suites (but I was not sure how far this really was from the entrance) Have also considered Candy Lane Inn or Desert Inn.

Like most of you I am looking for the best quality at the best possible price ;)

I asked a lot of people about the hotels close to the Disneyland entrance and it seemed like everywhere I turned, I kept coming back to the Candy Cane. And it's hard to beat the price and I've been told that their breakfast is good. AND they were super nice when we made reservations which adds lots of point for me.

I've never been but a lot of people recommended this one so I'm hoping I made a good choice! :D

Planogirl I know you made a good choice, if we cant stay on site we stay at the Candy Cane and love it. So tells us what you think when you get back k.

We are also staying at the Candy Cane in October. I have never been to DL, but I have surfed a number of sites in preparation for this trip. EVERYONE seemed to recommend the Candy Cane, and I have yet to read a negative report about it. My travel agent friend always stays there when she travels to DL.

The closest places to the entrance are The Best Western Park Place Inn (which is at the stop light for the cross walk over to the property), The Park Vue Motel, The Tropicana, The Desert Inn and Suites, The Carousel Inn, The Park Innand the Fairfield Inn. These are all closer than the Candy Cane But I would still pick the Candy Cane over any of them. The difference in walking time from these and the Candy Cane is 3 minutes or so.

Desert inn & suites is nice too. Has a nice Indoor Pool. I rarely stay on property, since I live in California, and have only had occasion to stay at certain places while going to conventions at the convention center, and whenever I do, I simply stay at whichever hotel is giving the biggest discount at the time. hehe.

Desert inn, Candy Cane, and the Hilton were all nice...just choose what you like, (or whatever is cheaper).

After all, if you really want to be "closest" to the parks, then Grand Californian would be it...hehe. ;)

All my best

I like Candy Cany because although it is not technically the closest, there are no major streets to cross to walk to the park (if I need the shuttle it is very reliable, too)

Personally, I found the Desert Inn to be a little dumpy, and the people at the front desk not particularly nice. Now this was a few years ago, and things and people change, so this is just my opinion. Go for the candy cane like others suggest.

Best Western Park Place Inn is right at the cross walk. They have a nice hotel (tiny pool) with free continental breakfast, or free pancakes. You choose. The rooms are pretty roomy and have a fridge, a coffee maker, and a micro wave.
We loved staying there.

just because you walk down where the tram lets you off if you park in the DL parking lot, to a stop light where you cross the street and walk down past 1 motel and you are there! It is NOT a beautiful hotel by any means but if you want close and convenient this is it. It is less of a walk than the Candy Cane and if you have small ones or are going to make this walk often I couldnt do the Candy Cane walk with my kids. We were there over 9/11/01 with my kids who were 7,5 and 2 and it took all they had to walk back to the Desert Inn every night because they were wiped out! My parents went with us and one really nice thing about where Desert Inn was is that our Motorola radios worked into the entrance of DCA so we could keep in touch with my parents who took my 2 year old back to the hotel to sleep for the afternoon nap and we knew when they were coming back so we could meet them and continue on for the day. This hotel is not 5 star quality but it is close and convenient! I have stayed at Candy Cane once and their rooms while a little nicer in colors and stuff were not as big as the Desert Inn. We love getting the family suite where our kids could have one room and we could have another so we could put them to bed and then have the rest of the evening to ourselves. WHen we got back to the hotel our kids were wiped out so we never once used the pool although it isnt that great anyway but we were there extra days since they shut down the airport and such this last time and we really enjoyed it. It is a typical type of Motel 6, Super 8 type motel and is not by any means "classy" but it is close, functional and they do give you a small breakfast for free. Of course we always walked up one door to the IHOP and ate there while our kids at for free anyway AND we got french toast or skillets or whatever! If you have tiny kids and want to be able to make it I would suggest Desert Inn but that is my humble opinion!
