So Small World was closed while we were there a couple weeks ago. I had heard that there were interactive screens being installed at the end of the ride that would show your name and say good bye to you. Has anything else changed since the ride has re-opened?

I had heard that there were interactive screens being installed at the end of the ride that would show your name and say good bye to you.

Those screens were already there.
They've been there for couple of years.
But, for much of that time, they were not in operation.
Then, a few months ago, they decided to start using the screens.
Then, very recently, they decided to STOP using them.

We don't know if they will ever be put back in operation.

MORE info on this HERE.

My 2 year old dd noticed hyenas after reopening...are they new?! A lot of the ride definitely looked newly painted. The screens were not being used when we were there.

I can say that the hyenas were definitely there before. I remember seeing them laughing back in 1992 when my family took our first trip when I was still a child.

So funny how I overlooked them for years and she noticed them instantly. I'm not surprised though since she has a hyena obsession (thanks to the Lion King movies and Lion Guard.)

I was on it last week the day it re-opened. It looked like they painted the ride; screens were not operating. My husband noticed while waiting that some of the white lights were out in the waiting area. He asked if they really refurbished the ride.

we were just down there - rode SW multiple times - the screens were never 'specialized' just the generic good-byes. We sadly noticed multiple dolls not working correctly - kind of surprising that everything wasn't fixed while it was down

I'm not at all surprised that they didn't do much more than paint. ISW is one of the iconic classic WDW rides. I think people still ride it for the nostalgia factor and to enjoy the simple message it's trying to convey. Even though a lot of people on this board complain and joke about not liking it (I'm not one, I enjoy the ride), I'm willing to bet that if they completely changed the ride there would be backlash from customers. Personally, I'd be OK if they did some modern updates to it, but wouldn't want it to go completely high tech.

we were on it's a small world the day before it closed and the name board was working just fine. I heard it was just a quick little fix up and nothing major for the closure

LOL, the Hyenas are my favorite part of Lion King, and I like Janja in Lion Guard.

FWIW, I didn't pay attention to the platypuses in IASW until I rode it as a Phineas and Ferb fan. Now they're a big deal for me. ;)

I think it would be impossible to remember all the details on the ride. Every time I'm on it (I love that ride because I get to sit down and be air-conditioned) I wonder if things are new, or different colors.

The first time I rode with my middle daughter, she was in Kindergarten. I remember telling her that the platypus is the only mammal that lays eggs. She asked, "What about dogs?" :scared:

What do you think an English Setter "sets" on?

Too funny! We spent a lot of time on our trip looking for hyena stuff. Only found pins. The poor forgotten hyenas.

I just googled "it's a small world hyena" and found pictures that look like hyena cubs. Are there any more realistic looking hyenas that represent Banzai, Shenzi and Ed more closely?
