I should know this since we've been members since '92, but we always just made our ressies and never had to get involved with cancellations (except once due to illness the week before. I know what happens when you cancel within the last 30 days.)

We want to make our ressies for a GV at OKW for '07 but we are afraid that the other people involved are going to cancel at some point. We're the members and they're our points so the others involved don't think canceling is a big deal.

I can't access the member's site right now so could someone please tell me the rules regarding cancellation. Thanks.

I'm also going to post this on the operations board because I'm not sure which board is correct.

As long as you cancel 31 or more days before arrival , the points will simply be returned to your account to be used or banked (subject to normal banking deadlines). There is no penalty for a cancellation unless 30 days or less before arrival.

I'd sure thry to pin down your guests plans before that 30 day mark! ;)

Good luck!

A reminder that if you bank or borrow any points to make the reservation, they can't be "put back" into their original Use Year. You'll need to use them that year.

Where would this trip fall in your Use Year? Your options would be limited if it's towards the end. If it's prior to the 100% banking deadilne for your Use Year, you'll have a lot more flexibility if you find you need to cancel.

Thanks for the replys and for the warning about banking. Trip is for Nov/Dec, use year is Aug so we should be fine.

Also, remember that any cancellation and rebooking might mean what you want will be unavailable if it gets too late down the road. If that happens, be sure you KNOW there is what you want available before you actually have MS cancel the ressie.

For this situation I would be reluctant to book a GV. You will likely be better off booking a 2 BR plus studios to round it out so you'll have more flexibility if they cancel. If you had enough points and were early enough in your use year you might consider holding both the GV and whatever step down in size you judged would be your best out.

I agree with Dean. I was going to try for a GV at the Boardwalk, and beside the point difference between a GV or a 2br and 1br, I worry that part of the ressies might have to be cancelled. So, I am going with th 2br 1 br combo.
