What happens when the primary guest cannot come?

We have our annual Dec trip at CCV booked for my husband and I as well as our son and his girlfriend. However my husband is currently in cardiac ICU and just placed on a transplant list. Obviously he and I will not be traveling. Originally we were just going to cancel the entire trip for all of us, but we are thinking that my son and his girlfriend may go down for a long weekend as she's never been at Christmas. I modified the reservation to just 3 nights (hello - anyone want a CCV 2 BR for a few days in early Dec??), but my husband and I are still on the reservation (I'm the primary). Would that cause any issues for them if I don't show up as the primary guest? They will just charge any expenses to their own credit cards vs the room (and honestly that is the last thing I'm worried about at this point in time). I know I can call and get the primary guest changed, but the less details I have to deal with right now the better.

Thanks for any advice from the savvy DVC vets on this board!!

Change the reservation so your son is the primary. It avoids any issues at check-in. You can always change it back if things improve for your husband.

Sending well wishes all goes well for him.

Sending you good thoughts but you don’t really need to worry who is lead guest.

As long as your son and his girlfriend are listed as guests, they can check in and everything else.

But, you can also just chat with MS to change them as it gets closer if you want.

First of all, best wishes for your husband’s health!

I agree that if you have a chance to call MS (after the hurricane emergency is over, of course) to change the primary guest, that would be ideal. But I don’t think there would be a problem if you don’t do it, especially if you do online checkin. Your son & GF can use MB if they have them or get key cards from the front desk, as long as their names are on the reservation. You don’t have to be there.

Just go and have fun. The primary guest does not have to be there. You are doing online check in so other guest can just go into the room on their own. You will just need to let the others know what the room number is because the primary will get the text that the room is ready. That is what I did when I could not get down there when the other folks on my reservation went.

I broke my foot about 5 days before a trip in 2021, I was lead guest and my friend was also on the reservation. I decided not to go last minute, but still wanted her to go, the points were banked from the 2020 close time. I didn’t do anything with the reservation. When I got the text with the room #, I forwarded it to her.

Best to your family. I know that years ago when my father went through something similar I had zero interest in going till he was out of the woods. So hopefully your husband is doing well by that point that your son can go. But be sure to keep an eye to that 31 day window.

All the best!

Hope your husband is doing ok.

Agree with other comments , give MS a call. A few years ago, my DH and I were three days away from trip. He went into AFib. If MS cancelled all that with no issues, changing the lead guest should be easy.

Thanks for all the advice and kind wishes. Eight days after going on the transplant list he matched and had surgery the next day. He's back home and doing well. Now our son and his sweet girlfriend can go have a relaxing weekend in December and we'll live vicariously through them. But December 2025? Watch out :flower: .
