What happens when contracts expire

So I know when the contracts expire the property reverts back to Disney. Any thoughts on what they do? Do they begin to resell them? Will they offer current owners a deal to redo contracts? Just curious if anyone has any thoughts. Its all speculation and decades away at this point.

They had a OKW extension offer but it was a screwed up mess. Disney's actions are decided by the numbers and profit. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Don't look for or expect any discounts from Disney, they are driven by profits and will charge whatever the market will bear not caring anything about your loyalty in my opinion.

Before purchasing OKW back in the 90's, I asked my guide what would happen the resort in 2042. She said they would probably tear it down. Then, a few years ago, they offered the contract extension- proving her a liar. Then, they recently refurbished the units- again proving she would say anything to sell a contract. Don't expect any favors from DVC, they will probably just resell the entire resort at full price.

Guides - or internet posters - wouldn't have any way of knowing what Disney's long range plans for the program are. Your guide gave you a speculative opinion for sure, but I don't think it was an intentional lie. One can't lie about things one doesn't know.

Not to be insensitive, but we as older DVC members really 'don't know and don't care'. DW and I will be dead by then (BLT 2062). We plan to get a good 25 - 30 years out of the contract, then sell to cover our funeral expences.

IMO not fair to call her a liar, she said probably and I would tend to agree that DVD will evaluate the properties from time to time and make decisions based on their findings. A lot can happen in 50 years, not sure they will resell a 50 year old rundown resort, might make more sense to tear it down and start over. The large spread out resorts SSR, OKW, will be easy to rebuild a section at a time without shutting down. The hotel type BWV AKV etc will be much more difficult.
