What happens when a promo starts in the middle of a stay?

I know when you book a package stay you get the package promo for the entire stay, even if you check in on the final day the promo is valid.
I also know that for a RO stay you don't get that option. The rate applies to each day singularly, for lack of better words.
But, what happens when your stay starts before the promo starts? Is there any way to book it so you get the Promo rate for the days that it is valid?
For example,
Day 1, no promos offered, rooms rack rate only
Day 2-4, promo rate offered

What I've ran in to, thanks to the new orphan room issues, is I can't book all days in the same resort unless I book it in 1 reservation. But if I do that, at least online, I loose the promo on Days 2-4. Because online it uses check in day as what it has for the basis of the promo's offered at the time of booking. The choices across the top go away when they aren't valid on check in day

I'm not against 2 separate reservations if they can make it happen on the phone but online won't let me book Day 1 and then Day 2-4. It will let me book all 5 days, so I know the room is there on Day 1. I just can't book it stand alone online. I know it's been hit or miss with getting CS to book the orphan dates.

Can they work around the promo thing on the phone? I realize I can call and ask but if someone already knows they can't then I'm not sure I'll bother, I hate calling. We have a different resort booked for day 1 and I'll just leave it.

in the past when we've booked a package where the promo doesn't start until the day after, we call and ask if there's a room only available for the one day, then next ask if there's any availability for the 'promo package" -- once we get confirmation that there's availability for both, we book exactly that way but usually grab the package first since those can go faster than the room only can.

You have to split stay.
I figured. Eh, in that case I'll leave things as they are. We are already right next door so moving isn't an issue really. I don't feel like calling and begging them to fix the orphan room work around for the stay so I'll just not bother.
