What happens to room discount?

What happens if you have a room-only reservation with a discount (VISA, bounceback, etc) and the primary reservation holder gets sick at the last minute and cannot travel? Will Disney honor the discount or will the room revert to rack rate?

I haven't read any reports of Disney taking away a room discount because the primary reservation holder would not check into the room. I know that Disney honored the AP discount for a reservation that my sister made while she was a passholder. Her AP had expired by her check in date but they didn't take away the discount.

Disney doesn't know who checked into the room, so I don't think there's a problem. However, the person who made the reservation will undoubtedly be charged for it, although perhaps there's a way to change this at the front desk.

But I must mention here that my experience with changing the person who's charged for the room involved a heckuva lot of time at the front desk over a couple of days. So if the primary reservation holder and the person who's actually going to use the room trust each other, then it's probably much easier for them to take care of the finances between them.

I made a room reservation for my son and his family with my AP discount, I'm staying at a different resort. Basically I put the room in his name and we are connected on MDE. I would think the only problem might be if you don't check in on line and go to the front desk they want to see an ID most of the time. The easiest solution is just make the other person part of your friends and family on MDE and put them on the reservation with the primary person and it won't be a problem. I've never had them ask to see my AP when I book with an AP discount.

I want to book a bounce-back and only have a week to do it, but I'm not sure I can get the time off planning this far in advance. I don't want to disappoint others who'd be on the reservation, if I have to cancel. I won't know about time off until February and we are hoping to go in early May.

Good luck, @leebee!

ETA: The bounceback rates are pretty terrific, so don't miss out if you even think you might do this.

You can also modify the dates of the reservation as long as a room is available. I booked a BB for the CR even though I had no intention of staying there, the person I spoke with at CRO recommended I do it to secure the BB discount and then keep calling back to see if other resorts had availability. I did, and changed to a different resort, then ended up calling again and changing the dates and resort another time! Even if you can't go, do the automated check in, then have whoever is staying go to the FD and add their credit card for any further charges. Disney won't know you aren't there.
