What happens to PIN room inventory if canceled

So Disney sets aside a certain block of rooms for each resort that can be reserved with a particular PIN, and once they are all booked, you can't get a room at that resort with that pin anymore. Right? So, if someone cancels or changes their reservations (or say changes from PIN to FD), does that room go back in the available inventory for that PIN? The CM I talked to said that those rooms just go back into regular inventory, and are not available for rebooking by someone else with the pin. Does anyone know if that's how it works?? We were hoping to change our PIN room to a PIN room with a better view, but nothing is available. So am I wasting my time calling to check for cancelations (since even if someone cancels, I wouldn't be able to get it with the pin anyway)? Any insight would be appreciated.

I have heard that they do not go back into the discounted inventory, but back to the rack rate inventory. No way of knowing that for sure, though.

I'm in the same situation as you are, and I was told the same thing about rooms returning to regular rack rate. Still, I still make the occasional phone call. I've heard enough stories about people "finally getting that room" that I feel like I should keep calling.
