What happens to Fast Passes when I reassign a ticket?

We have our tickets purchased and FP selections made for our trip in February. However, my son’s friend whom one of the tickets was originally assigned to, is no longer able to join us. Instead my nephew is going.

What is the process to reassign the ticket and what happens to the friend’s FP selections? I am assuming that I should first change the name on our hotel reservation, then add my nephew to my friends and family list, then reassign the ticket to him. Once I do that will the FP selections automatically change to his name? If not, is it easy to go into MDE and change the name? Or will I have to get all new FP? Thanks.

Can't your nephew just be your son's friend, for planning purposes? The magic band doesn't care who wears it.

If he is OK with the same FPs, why take the chance of blowing things up?
This is BY FAR the best and will be the most successful way to handle this situation.

Who's controlling the account of the friend? Does he actually have his own MDE account or did you just create a profile for him that you used to book. If the latter, just change the name on the account as you suggested. I can't answer 100%, but I'd be surprised if FP transferred when you transfer a ticket. (Also note that if you transferred a ticket to an account of someone who has their own MDE, you can't just take it back - they would have to transfer it back to you).

Hmm... I guess that would work. I just figured I would need to change the name on our resort reservation, as I assumed they would need to know who was actually staying at the resort when we check in, not just a random name. I created the friend's profile on my MDE account. I also assumed the FPs need to be linked to a ticket, presumably with the same name. My nephew will be fine with the FPs I have booked.

I guess I would also be hesitant to leave the friend's name on the ticket/FPs in case there was a situation where my nephew needed to show ID. Would that ever be the case? For MK DAH tickets? For possibly buying a beer (son's friend is 16, nephew is 25)? And then there's the issue of the fingerprint scan--would my nephew's fingerprint be linked to the friend's name for "Disney eternity"?!?!? Seems like there could be glitches for each scenario...
Thanks.

Because the profile is going from a 16 to 25 yr old, I would do it properly. The WDW Internet Help Desk can swap everything over ‭407-939-7765‬

My two cents is nothing needs to be changed. Disney considers you an adult after age 10, so the right tickets are already linked up.
You don't need to scan a band to buy a beer. Just have him show his ID.
You can always adjust the profile or even delete it and redo it after this trip.

If you do decide to go through the help desk to change everything, I would make sure to have screenshots of all the current fastpasses before anything is done.

In reading over the replies, I had another idea. What if I add my nephew's name on our room reservation, without taking off the friend? That way we will get all five magic bands. My nephew can use his magic band for getting into the room, charging purchases, etc., and then use the friend's magic band for entering the park and tapping into FPs only. Would that work? Or can you not use your MB for purchases in the park without having a ticket on it?

You may end up getting hit with "extra adult over 18" charge for the reservation if you do that.

I think you might be over complicating things unnecessarily. In my opinion the easiest thing to do is just have your nephew use the friends MB for park entry, FP entry and resort room entry.

To answer one of your initial questions - If you reassign the ticket away from the friend, and to your nephew, any FPs that are currently assigned to the friend will be cancelled by Disney. Usually within 24-36 hours. This is assuming the friend has no other tickets assigned to their profile in MDE.

If you prefer to have your nephew use a completely different MDE profile, you can call Disney IT and have them make the necessary changes. They have the ability to transfer the FPs from the friend to your nephew. Guests used to have the ability to transfer FPs on their own, but sadly that option began circling the drain about a year and half ago.

Also, you didn’t mention how many adults will be in the room in total, and you’re probably already aware, but any adults in the room after the first two will incur an additional charge per night from Disney. The amount per night depends on which level of resort you are staying at.

Thank you for answering my initial question. I do not want to lose the FPs that I booked, so I will not reassign the ticket. We will have four adults in our room, which is a 2BR DVC villa. If I decide to add my nephew onto the reservation (for a potential total of five people listed on the reservation), I don't think we will be charged, as the 2 BR accommodates eight and we are using points. Might the front desk be able to change the tickets and FPs when we arrive? Thanks.

You don’t need to reassign the ticket change the name yourself in MDE and the new name will show up for the tickets and room reservation. We did this last year with my family. My sister and her BF broke up a month before our trip so we changed his name in MDE to my niece’s name and everything went perfectly smoothly! The only reason this might not work great was if either of them already had their own MDE account that you were linking to.

Oh wow! Really? So just go into my son's friend's profile on my MDE account and change the name to my nephew? That seems like the easiest idea ever! Thanks so much

Your issue here is the fastpasses, which most likely worked for the pp because they modified profiles *prior* to making FP. Fastpasses do not automatically switch profiles and will still be in nephews name.

Again, the WDW Internet Help Desk can swap everything over ‭407-939-7765‬.

Nope, we had fastpasses already made, that’s why we did it that way. And we weren’t switching profiles, we literally just changed the name in MDE - so it was the same profile, we just changed the name on it.

I didn’t realize it would sync. Awesome tip, thanks.

Yeah it was definitely the easiest way to do it for us and we had no issues!

This would’ve saved me so much time and headache over Christmas :headache: As many times as I’ve called IT, they’ve never mentioned it. Not surprised, lol. It really is so simple.

We have switched tix to someone else before...actually a few times and NEVER involve Disney as in general it's much more likely for them to mess something up, so it's just not worth it. It doesn't matter who's using the tix or fastpass as long as it hasn't already been used. There are no circumstances in which he would need to show an when using the theme park ticket and it match the name on the hotel reservation. There is NO need for Disney to know the names of all the ppl. staying in the room - think of a regular hotel room; you don't list all the names, just the 1 person making the reservation. Disney is no different; the only person who's name needs to be on/match the hotel is the lead guest...there's no need to change any of this.

Fastpasses are NOT linked to a person/profile; they're linked to the ticket. Again, there's no need for OP to change anything, but if she chooses to the fastpass will go with the ticket...again provided Disney doesn't mess anything up.
