What happens to borrowed pts if I cancel?

If I made a reservation at 11 months with current and borrowed points but then had to cancel it right away, what happens to the borrowed points? Are there time windows on borrowed points? Can they be returned to their original use year if cancelled in advance?

Borrowing and banking are final transactions. They cannot be returned to their original use year, so they are now in the year you transferred them to permanently.

You could use them for a trip, and then bank your current year points into the next year if you have too many points in this year now.

We had to do that in 2008. I had to cancel my parents' studio reservation about 2 months out. The cm rearranged everything so that our 2br reservation used the borrowed points, then we banked the points from that use year.

The only time you will find a problem using the borrowed points for a different reservation is if the other reservation was made using home resort priority period with those home resort points and the borrowed points are from a different resort.

Correct. Use the borrowed points within the use year, bank your regular points - no problem.

Banking and borrowing are final transactions, so you can't return them into their original UYs.

But you can use your borrowed points in another reservation, within the UY that they current reside, and bank your current year's points into next year.

Sometimes they will return borrowed points.
I was going to have them switch out points between reservation, so that I could bank current UY points.
I had a waitlist that didn't come through and I decided I would rather pay cash for one night than switch resorts twice.
My first two nights were current year points, the third and fourth were borrowed points.
My third night was at a different resort. waitlisted for the same.
I canceled my third night at 31 days out.
A CM that I spoke with earlier told me about being able to swap out the points.
When I ask them to do it when I canceled the reservation, they put me on hold.
The CM returned and told me they decided it was easier to just put the points back in their own UY instead of swapping out points.
I have no idea why they did this...
But I guess anything is possible.
