What happens if you only need resort parking for latter half of resort stay?

Asking for a friend. She is using DME to arrive at Disney to her resort. She plans to do some sightseeing outside the Disney bubble in the latter half of her stay and will rent a car. How will Disney know she isn't going to have a need for resort parking until mid-way into her stay? Will she still be charge every day regardless? Will they give her a placard for just the portion that she needs?

I'm sure others will provide more accurate information, but I'm pretty sure they are tying tapping your Magic Band at the resort gate to having a car to park.

All my most recent stays, I've had a rental car but did direct-to-room check-in, so there was no on-dash paper permit, but they knew to charge me for parking.

The exception was a two-night stay at Coronado when Gran Destino was under construction, and the parking gate over to my room in the Cabanas section was left open due to the work. No tap, no parking fee.

Whether they will charge her for all the nights once she starts using a car, I don't know...just check those room charges at the end and ask if there's any discrepancies.

I am guessing she can go to the desk at check-in or shortly after arrival and mention it to the CM. I'm sure she's not the first guest who has only had a car for a portion of their stay. She can have them maybe note when she will have a car, so that was if a discrepancy in the end on her bill (charges all days of stay) she can "fight" it.

Our last trip was from 30th December 2019 - 16th January 2021. Our first 9 nights were on property and we arrived at our resort with DME but then picked up a hired car on the 7th January before checking out on the 8th. As others have said we accessed resort parking by tapping our Magic Bands at the gate however when we checked out there was no charge for parking for our final night. Guessing there might have been had we been tapping over a period of days though. If there had been a charge mistakenly for the whole visit I would have presented my car rental documents when challenging the discrepancy to prove we'd only had the car for a very small portion of our stay.

We always have our car and out of 5 resort stays since disney started overnight parking charges, we've only been charged for two, Port Orleans Riverside and Boardwalk Villas. Our last stay at CBR, no parking charges, none at Port Orleans for a subsequent stay and then no parking charges at AKL. I assumed that at CBR they were giving freebies since the resort had just re-opened and our stay was so bad, that they comped our parking. Must of felt bad for us LOL! On the AKL stay, I checked in at the desk and they asked me if I had my vehicle and still was never charged, IDK, I chalk it up to lackluster procedures but I'm not calling it out to pay for something that used to be free.

For your friend, I presume the guard at the gate would let them in with the rental and then they can choose to inform the front desk if they want to. I would just watch the charges upon checkout since they may tack it on automatically for all nights. I have heard from a few friends that were charged for parking and they never had a car, so I think it's luck of the draw who's working on the check outs for the resort.

To date, we have never received a parking pass or anything for our car at any of the on site resorts.
