I just got our magic bands today in the mail! So excited!!! I am a little worried though what if one was lost. Do you loose your park days? I'm worried my 4 year old will take it off

You don't lose your park days because they're not on your Magic Bands; they're on your MDE profile. Magic Bands can be replaced.

There's nothing actually ON the magic band. It's all in your MDE account and the magic band is just a link to that account. So you can't physically lose your tickets, FP, ADRs, etc. by misplacing a magic band.

But even mde went down for about 2 weeks once (after I entered EVERY detail of a trip, every confirmation #, every phone number, every address for the gps). Which is why it is suggested that photo copies be made or ticket numbers written down (for dining, resorts, fp's and tickets) some sort of back up plan so you are ready for the unthinkable.

I asked this very question while checking in this past week. The CM told me that they will replace them for free. ...for now. But, in a few months you will be charged $15 to replace lost bands.

If you misplace or loose your MagicBand during your trip, don't worry.

The MagicBand is RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) enabled. Underneath the name on the bottom of the MB is a "BandID", which is the unique ID of the chip inside. Looks like the format is "0000-0000-A000" -- this is the only thing that's associated with the band itself.

When the band is scanned using an RFID reader, it will read the "BandID". The system then access the MDX (My Disney Experience) database to determine what tickets, dining plan, FastPasses+, etc are associated with the BandID.

If you loose this band, you can use the MDX App to "deactivate" the MagicBand. This will prevent the band from being used. If you do not have the App on your phone, visit the nearest Guest Services and have them deactivate it there.

My dad lost one on his last trip and he just went to guest services and they deactived the band and gave him a new one. It is flagged that way in MDE too, if you look at his past bands, it shows active ones, inactive ones, and this one lost one.

DH lost his magic band in November - we were in the middle of a competition so we didn't stop to look for it or report it. He had his AP card to use to get into parks so we went with that. Someone found it and turned it in. When we got back to the room there was a message waiting for us and we were able to pick it up at our resort desk (they had sent it over for us!).

Don't panic if you lose it - it might turn up again. I was glad we had the physical ticket (RFID) to use in the meantime.

Question: has anyone tried to get a KTTW card in addition to (or instead of) a MB during an onsite stay? If you had one and it was tied to your ticket media, you could just use that instead of the MB if you lost it.

I was travelling with my brother's family and his son lost his MB, but they had tickets from UT. They just used that UT ticket instead for park entry and FP+ instead of getting a new MB (though I told them they could get a new one). But if you bought tickets from Disney, I don't think you would have a physical ticket anymore.

No one has to wear the MB. You can get him a card and carry it, you can carry his MB. You can buy a slider and put it over the spot where the bracelet attaches to itself. You can buy/make a coverband, and make sure it's pulled all around the MB, which makes it much more stable. Even if it pops open, it's got the fabric around it holding it on the wrist, and you have a chance of getting it before it totally falls off.

FWIW, the my account area has been losing peoples' plans for ages now. And almost always it has been temporary. Almost always, the people who did nothing ended up having their stuff magically come back. The people that changed things never knew IF it would come back, because they had already changed it all.

That's how it has been since before they started messing with the website (late Fall 2012, wow has it been that long?). No way of knowing if the current crop of things disappearing off MDE would go the same way, and I would be hard pressed to want to mess with the chance of it coming back if it happened to me, but it's hard to know!

I lost mine swimming in the French Qtr pool. I actually found it, but was told before I did that replacing it was a piece of cake. Granted, if you didn't realize for hours after you had lost it I might be concerned. But even then, they have to have a PIN to use the charge option. I don't think you have much to worry about. Enjoy that amazing vacation, and don't sweat the small stuff!!!
