What happens if you dont show up for ADR

if you had to reserve with your credit card (Cinderella Castle, Hoop de doo Revue, Fantasmic Dinner Package, Luau at Ohana) then your card will be charged unless you cancel 48 hours prior to your seating (I think it's 48 hours). Otherwise, there isn't a penalty but of course, it's courteous to let the restaurant know if you can

Nah, just kidding. Unless it's one of the restaurants where you put a credit card hold, nothing will happen. However, as a courtesy, you shoudl call and cancel so that perhaps a last minute walk up person could still get a place to eat.

If you don't show on one that requires a credit card hold, you card will be charged.

We've cancelled ADR's when plans change and there's no penalty unless the reservation required a credit card. Just call Disney Dining and let them know.

If you do not cancel they will (as penalty) hunt you down, take you to It's A Small World, chain you into a boat, and make you ride 20 consecutive times.

They make you stand in front of the 100's of people who were told no openings and turned away and explain why you took the reservation and didn't show.

As everyone has mentioned, there is no penalty if it is not a credit card guarantee reservation.

Reminds me of a story. I had made an ADR for the night we arrive for our trip last year. Our plane was delayed but I didn't think much of it since we still had plenty of time. When we finally arrived at the resort (AKV), we were so tired. So we went to Boma and asked them if they had room for dinner that night and they said no problem. I was surprised since we have never tried walk ups before and was sure we would end up eating at Mara. Anyways, my husband said that we had ADRs for another restaurant and can they possible call and cancel it for us. She said, no problem. When they finally called us to our seats, we ask if they were able to cancel and the same hostess said "NO, no need, if you don't show up, they'll assume it's a cancellation"...I was a little surprised and a bit upset. That did not seem correct. Anyways, I asked for the number of the restaurant to call and I was told that a family is waiting and would love to take my reservation and thanked me for calling. I didn't tell her what the hostess had told me. I couldn't believe how lazy that hostess was. Now I should have know, this was the same hostess I was not thrilled with on our previous trip (very long story). Sorry, this went too long and really off top, but I did learn never to make ADRs for arrival day.

When we were there in August we had ressies for 4 at CRT and my dh ended up leaving WDW early so when we arrived there were only 3 of us(work emergency). I had expected to have to pay for all 4 of us since we didn't give them any notice and I didn't even bother to ask about a credit since it was already paid for on dh's credit card. While we were eating breakfast our server came up to me and said that "since the king was unable to join us that day they were giving us a Disney GC in the amount of his meal" I was very happy!
