What happened to Tikiman's website?

I read in a previous post that Tikiman's site is down temporarily. Something about "too much traffic" on the site. Not sure when it will be back up. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

It is on a limited bandwith and when you get too many visits then the site temporarily goes down. It will be back when it resets.

You can not imagine the cost of operating a site that gets thousands of hits such as this one does.

Disney should be footin' the bill for that website. Tikiman is providing more positive marketing for the Poly than anything Disney does! Keep up the great work Tikiman, I'm glad you're still out there maintaining that fantastic website. There's nowhere better for us Poly lunatics to surf! (no pun intended)

I went to the thread you linked and it was indeed a "rumor". Steve posted himself about it being a bandwidth issue on page 2 of that same thread.

Are you sure about the PM? I ask because I tried to send someone some info on another vendor that was banned in a PM and got back that the PM was also *****. So PMs may not work

(And it was not this website. I don't really like the Poly so this website did nothing for me! )

I don't appreciate them banning sites from the message boards.

I tried posting some information from the site for the UG guide book and it was banned. What is galling about that is the UG recommends these message boards! I have also heard one of the hosts of the podcast the co-author of the UG is on mention the DIS on a recent podcast.

OK, here's the deal. This thing costs MONEY to run! Most of us don't pay anything (including me ignore the sponsor button, that probably won't happen again for a lot of reasons)

So, the advertisers PAY the bills. If the board owners feel like someone is "advertising" for free they ban them.

If you don't like the rules you don't have to play, but I imagine keeping this massive board up is not cheap!

In Tikiman's case, how is it free advertising when he isn't selling anything or competing with any of the advertisers on this site? All you do by sending someone to his site is give him more eyeballs. That may increase any money he might make off advertising, but nothing more. Again, he does not compete with any of the advertisers on this site.

Also, my original point is that the UG sends traffic, probably a lot of traffic, to this site and its advertisers by recommending it in their book. For instance, that is how I first discovered the site. But since the UG cares about its readers and giving them unbiased information and the DIS doesn't have to worry about any quid pro quo, the DIS can ban the UG's website. All I am saying is that isn't fair.

CarolA, you could be right. I never tried sending a filtered name or website by PM.

If anyone has problems with the DIS banning sites or businesses I suggest they take it up with the webmasters. This board is owned by Pete Werner and he can set up the rules. If someone doesn't like the rules they are always free to set up their own message boards and run it the way they like. This isn't meant to sound harsh but just explaining how it is here on the DIS.

I am going to close this because everyone here does not know all the details to why certain sites are not welcome here. Only Pete, maybe the webmasters and the people who are in the word filter know all the details. Us discussing it will not change that decision.

A lot of work went into creating and maintaining the DIS. There is no reason why certain people should benefit from the volume of traffic they get on their sites when it is mentioned on the DIS when they are not sponsors. This is my opinion by the way.
