I may be in the twilight zone---but on the monorail we passed on through and where a garden wing once stood, there is a construction site?

What happened???

This is the construction site for the rumored Disney Vacation Club site at the Contemporary.

I really don't think it will as big as that pictures show.

the building is going up slowly

Actually based on what I heard last trip over there, it was going to be DVC, but lately so many guests have been parking at the Contemporary and going to the MK that don't stay there, that it's the new valet parking garage. ;)

I took these photos on 8/29/07 of the construction while waiting for the monorail to the POLY.

So yep, there definitely is construction going on. There's also construction going on within the hotel as well:

They further plan to close Concourse Steakhouse and open a new Asian-themed restaurant on the first floor, where the old Food and Fun Center was.

I think where the steakhouse is now, will become more seating for Chef Mickey's (as if it isn't loud enough now) but I could be wrong about that one.

That is 100% incorrect. The Concourse Steakhouse will become the new counter service location, since the Waive which is replacing the Concourse Steakhouse is moving to where the Food & Fun Center is. When it re-opens the new counter service location will be called Chef Mickey's Express. Here is part of the renovation schedule for the Contemporary which backs up what I am saying.

Sept 9, 2007 through April 2008 - The Food & Fun Center will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as a new table service option, "The Wave". During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 -The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

As for Chef Mickey's the restaurant, it is not adding more tables and etc. So it's staying the way it is and it will be the only place not to be renovated.

Does anyone know if there is going to be counter service after September 9th (tomorrow)? I'm trying to think where we get a quick lunch or dinner if they're closing it down. When we made our ressie they mentioned the construction but never said anything about no food court. Anyone....Bueller.....:confused3

The answer to that is yes and no. On the 4th floor will be a temporary counter service location which would replace the Food & Fun Center, until the new location opens next year where the Concourse Steakhouse use to be. So they would only be selling grab & go itmes, like they did at the Polynesian when Captin Cook's was closed for renovation.

However the Contemporary has a 2nd counter service location called the Sand Bar, which is located by the pool. They don't have a huge menu as the Food & Fun Center, but what they do have some standard items the Food & Fun Center had. Here is their menu so you can take a look at it. What I can tell you is they are not open for breakfast.
