Well, we decided last night we were going to head back to Disney in April when my son has off school. Which happens to be the week of the 17th. We're looking at leaving sometime mid-week the week before.

Anyhow, all but once we've flown SW out of Buffalo for always $120 pp/rt or less. I just checked and I can't believe the flights. First, they don't even have a "sale rate", secondly they don't seem to have a real lot available. I couldn't believe it. I have a credit w/ them, but it's only $60, not gonna make the $200+ pp/rt seem like the good deals we usually get.

I did notice if I go on Tuesday (which was really 2 days earlier than I wanted to go), then we could fly Jetblue for about $160 pp/rt which is a little better. I just prefer the nonstop service of SW and the usual low prices.

So, does anyone think these might come down any??? I'm in a quandry. I'm gonna wait until this Tuesday no matter what, as I noticed the current SW sale ends this weekend. But I don't want to risk those Jetblue fares climbing any either. I'm so torn--I also need to use that credit.

kilee ~ I don't know what is up with Southwest either. I like to fly their nonstop from NH but I had the same problem with my February trip. I waited and waited for Southwest to open up the booking for February and then I was so disappointed that they had no good deals. The best I could find was $300+ per person with lousy flight times and not nonstop. :guilty: I ended up going with US Air for less than $200 per person but now I have a 2-1/2 hour layover in Charlotte that started as a 1-1/2 hour layover. I have since checked Southwest flights for kicks after I bought US Air and the prices weren't much better. You might want to grab the Jet Blue for $160.

Keep in mind that most of cny is on spring break then too. lots of people from Syracuse and rochester areas will drive to BUffalo to get the cheaper rates on sw. So the better flights might actually be sold out of the discounted rates.

I was going to post the same thing. We booked our flights out of Syracuse for that same week in June of '04.

we wanted to fly from Boston/ or Providence to ft myers that same April week and airfare 1 way down was 259.00 each way so needless to say we are staying put and looking for other times. i think it is because of vacation for the kids.

Airfare is always high on school vacation weeks. I always pull the kids out of school a couple of days before just to get decent airfare. I'd rather spend the extra money on a hotel for a few extra nights and have a longer vacation.

I guess the thing is only a few schools around here are actually on vacation that week or anytime around it. I guess it must be due to what suzannef referenced. We're giving it until Tuesday-- then if nothing better pops up we're booking Jetblue. Which will mean pulling DS out of school. Originally, we planned on him missing Thu & Fri before the break to get a head start on our trip. To get that rate at Jetblue I'll need to book a Tuesday flight-- however, we can go in the evening. So, in the end he'll miss 3 days instead of 2. Good thing his school has a liberal vacation policy.

There probably were some everyday low price seats on SW but someone beat you to them.

All the fares including the everyday low price may fluctuate up and down as the airline does fare wars, and sometimes a super saver (Delta calls it T) below the everyday low price (Delta's U) appears. But the super saver is not likely to reappear during the choicest travel dates. Keep checking.

Don't all of the schools in your area keep the same vacation schedule? Here in Upstate NY, all the elementary-high schools are off April 18-22. When do the other schools in your area have Spring Break?
Same with winter break. Looks like a lot of the Northeast is joining us in Florida in February for winter break (Feb 21-25). I expect it to be a bit crowded.

I live in Rochester and we ended up booking JetBlue out of buffalo for that same week. I have been watching the airfare out of BUF and it is just going up, up and AWAY! SW was under $1000 two weeks ago for 4 RT tix to MCO, but I can't even touch it now. Even our Jetblue was $1300 for the four of us , and that is leaving on a thursday and returning on a friday.

I say, book your Jetblue now, prices are only going to climb, and those cheap tix on SW are gone, I'm afraid.

Not all our schools follow the same schedules. We have off the week of April 17th-- but the school in the very next district is off for a full week at Easter and I work w/ 2 women who's children go to 2 more different school districts and they don't have that week off either. It appears about 1/3 of the school's around here are off that week.

We're pushing our flight dates to Tuesday's to get a better deal. I will be booking in the next 48 hrs--just hoping they don't skyrocket in the meantime.

Gl booking your flights!

I don't know which county you are in, but I thought that Erie county was adopting a similar school schedule to ours here in Monroe --off for a week in Feb, off on Good Friday and then off the week of the 18th. I know that some schools differ from this but most schools (at least in our area and in most of the state) are off that week too.

Plus peak season is just ending for most of the resorts around the 16th so there are bound to be a lot of people stayed at the resorts longer than that.

Hope you find a decent deal!

Maybe try priceline and name your own fare. Sometimes you can lucky and pay what you want.

I actually live in Chautaqua County---but I'm on the border of Erie County. Erie county did mandate that the school's all adopt the same vacation schedules but they don't have they have until something like 2008 to do so.

I'm waiting until after midnight to see if Southwest has any deals--then I'll book the $79 on Jetblue, which isn't terrible. I just prefer to fly direct and I have a small credit w/ SW I'd like to use.

We're stuck with Delta flights at $251.00 pp/rt. And dont even get me started on that "Wyle E. Coyote" plane they have us on. I swear I think I would feel safer with the slingshot.

I booked-- w/ Jetblue. Southwest didn't run any new promotions this week. I was afraid the fare on Jetblue would start to go up. We do have the 1 lay-over in JFK. But I got all 3 tickets R/T for $578.40. Not a real bargain but is is $318 cheaper than what I was able to book w/ SW. I've just never paid this much for airfare--I'm having sticker shock!!!

It seems to me that, as leisure travel continues to recover, the golden deals of the past few years might be much much harder to find.

Well it could be worse you could not be going, right? So now make your count down have fun planning(my favorite part) THEN JUST ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF YOUR TRIP :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:
