What happened to Chef Mickey's?

Word for word...I could have written this about our 3 experiences there....Alas, we are looking to make a breakfast reservation in August for our 2 year old who has yet to experience the wonder of Chef Mickey's, LOL. He loves the Fab 5 and our older girls are like "do we have too???".

Oh, the sacrifices they make for their brother.

Considering that for every positive review of this place, I read 20 negative ones, I'd say the 2 year old won't even remember anyway! Why not do a FP+ meet and greet and a treat afterwards instead?

I've never eaten there, and we're not big eaters either. It doesn't appeal to me at all. Going to California Grill for Sunday brunch next trip instead!

I had the California Rolls in May. Can't say it's a loss that they're gone though. They were completely tasteless (when we went). I did find other options that I thought were quite good. Very hit or miss kind of place. I'm not happy to see such a limited list of items. The selection was one of the redeeming qualities. We have an ADR again this year.

Tradition, that's all...it's been almost 5 years since we've eaten there. I'm willing to give it a shot again.

Look - it's not awful. It's just pricey and not what it used to be food wise. I can understand people going there. Mousemommy1 just mentioned tradition - that's valid. Also - I let people on the trip pick what they want to do. This time one of my kids really wanted to do Chef Mickey - so we did it. The year that one of them wanted to see Country Bear Jamboree at rope drop - we did that. Not all choices have to be the clear best choice. And there are people that really like volume in food - you don't get that at California Grill.

I would say that I am glad that we ate there, but won't be doing it again any time soon.

Where's the sushi? Is this temporary? Don't think it's worth it to go now.

1) If you would cancel simply because of no sushi, it does sound like you were committed to be begin with.

Seems to me like they are cancelling because the changes mean they no longer get the value for their money. We all know Disney has been taking things away and charging more for less, hoping the consumer wouldn't know or care. Complaining during the meal isn't effective, because you're already on the hook for the cost of the meal. By not going at all, consumers can speak with their wallets. And when sales are down, big companies listen.

We have eaten at Chef Mickey's 1x.... but probably won't again. The food was just OK.... we thought that it was WAY over hyped!

There's a easy compromise to this problem: Don't go for lunch or dinner. Book Chef Mickey's for breakfast, which to my recollection was pretty nice albeit heavily sugar-laden. You get to keep the tradition and avoid the poor food quality. There are SO many good dinner and lunch options at Disney and a lot fewer unique choices for breakfast that this is a no-brainer.

I don't think many people eat at Chef Mickey's for the food.

We were there a long time ago (2001) and we thought it was the worse meal we ate at WDW. We were there for 15 night so we ate at a lot of places. When I read the reviews, everyone seemed to really like it. I thought it was just us that could not stand it. If I remember correctly, the other character meals had better interaction as well as food.

We ate dinner there in September. the food & the selections were great. We've been going there for years and read some recent reviews that said how bad it was. That wasn't the case at all. We LOVED it.

I don’t see a soup listed nor the parmesan mashed potatoes.

The loss of the mashed potatoes would be very disappointing, but I will flat out cancel our ADR if there is no soup.

Well no one goes for the food anyways but you had better get used to the menu shrinking. With Disney charging for everything but air right now it was a foregone conclusion that they would look at the buffet menus of any restaurant they owned and look for ways to shrink their costs without increasing anything for the customer.

Chef Mickey's is an every trip tradition for our family. We have always done dinners there. Our last trip was December 2017 and we felt that there were definitely less items than usual. Also we noticed our favorite side dish, Parmesan Mashed Potatoes was replaced with a different recipe. I think they are called savory mashed potatoes now. When I asked my family about our trip this year my DW & DD said they would be OK if we skipped Chef Mickeys this year. We have decided that we will try the breakfast there instead.

I'm sorry, and I say this as someone who always defends Chef Mickey's, but you could not pay me to eat sushi from Chef Mickey's. I'm thinking it may well be a great gift to humanity that someone made the decision to discontinue it.
