What happened to Aulani?

Was there today, we went to the lagoon in front of it. They were building a large sand castle (with Mickey on a surfboard) right in front of it. I wish I had my camera. Lots of people were taking pictures though, so hopefully one will pop up here or on the web! I take it the sand castle is for some sort of ad or promo. There was a whole crew out there working on it, with beige "Aulani" tshirts.

We are quickly in the video, we were under the umbrella to the left...I had a stroller. It's like a BLINK. It was almost done when we left. Dang. Should have stayed and watched Mickey!!!! We left at like noon or 1pm.

A reasonable approach -- although honestly, why on earth would you buy a timeshare for a place you're only going to visit every five years? That's crazy.

Anyway, watching the booking patterns during construction won't tell you much since there's guaranteed to be 7-month availability (because of the gap between sold points and declared points, as I mentioned previously in this thread).

I will overlook your use of the r-word just this once!

'r' meaning? regular? Well, we have had this 5 yr. pattern since 1990...sooo it's regular to US!!

Anyway, like I said, we'll monitor the threads & see if people are reporting NOT being able to get in at 7 months. If people seem to be able to get ressies then no, there is no need for us to buy in there. I think Aulani will not be a purchase we will make UNLESS that appears to be the only way we could get in. And it would only be about 50 points...just a smallish add-on. But we'll wait & see how the early bookings go. We will have time to make the purchase if necessary.

Is it it just me, or has the pace of posts about buying at Aulani died down to barely a trickle?

Anyone else surprised not to get a splashy brochure or mailing from DVC about the new Hawaiian resort? I remember getting a gorgeous brochure about BLT just before it went on sale. The excitement of thumbing through that on the plane down to the member cruise was one of the reasons why I ended up adding on during the cruise.

Combine this with Bob Iger's remark that he is "reasonably encouraged" by sales at Aulani. Why such a restrained rollout?
