What happened to all the good deals?

I am a bargain shopper, and LOVE coming across a good deal. Lately I haven't really come across anything really "great" - either online or in stores. I got some school supplies marked down at Target, and a couple of purses for $3.99 @ AC Moore for Christmas gifts. But other than that it seems the deals are sparse? Not sure if it's the economy, or what. Anyone else finding anything good?
There's nothing specific I am looking for, just looking for good deals to stash things for Christmas/birthdays etc.

Nope, I am right there with you. There doesn't seem to be a serious push to get products moving yet. I figure that, right before Black Friday, everything is going to go berserk when they realize purchasing is still down!

Purchasing may be down but so is inventory. Stores are keeping much tigher control over what they stock and in what quantity so they end up with little to no excess they have to price down to get rid of. You are also seeing more people looking for bargains out of necessity so if something gets marked down in a store it gets scooped up faster.

Yes, I think PP is right on target - stores don't have the excess inventory to slash prices. I think the store buyers start out with a smaller amount of stock, and hold to their retail mark-up to make their profit.
