Preserves? Jam? What brand?

I found a great recipe on allrecipes.com and I'd love to surprise my dad w/a batch of kolacky (a Polish pastry/cookie) but don't know what is typically used for the center. I'd like the filling to be pretty sweet.

You can put in apricot or strawberry preserves, cream cheese mixture, poppy seed.

Did you find the ice cream kolacky, that is the easiest and tastiest.

OK, you've peaked my curiousity. I've gotta look up a recipe for them on allrecipes.com

Is this the same or different from a kolache? (which is Czech, not Polish.)

are these at all similar to the Czech Kolache? I haven't ever heard of kolackys, but I do know Kolaches as we had a Czech town about 7 minutes up the road growing up and had them all the time. I LOVE the cream cheese ones, assuming they are similar you could do that.

Solo brand apricot! It's the only way to go! It is not as sugary as the jams and it blends well with the pastry. Usually found in the baking aisle. Our family also does a nut blend, but I only make the apricot

Yes, it WAS the ice cream recipe!

So it's PRESERVES, not jam or jelly? And that's sweet enough?

Then my personal favorite is cherry pie filling.

Apricot, raspberry, prune, walnut. I've been making these cookies since I was a little kid when my grandmother showed me how to make them. :santa:

I have been using preserves for years now. It is sweet enough with out being over sweet.

You will find many similar recipes, since those Eastern European countries have been a several wars in the past.

Any pictures???? I have never heard of this.

Polish/Slavic here and grew up with the kolaches. I am partial to something other than apricot. I like the raspberry & walnut.

I don't know how to post links but if you do a google image search for kolache lots of pics come up. I am sincerely wondering how similar/different they are because I wouldn't describe them as cookies, personally....but it may just be a different regional thing.

Oh and those *things* that they sell at kolache factory- my great grandma would turn over in her grave. My grandma was so disgusted with them....

Type in "kolacky" in google images and you'll get a good idea. Some are like an oversized thumbprint cookie and others are folded over the jam/preserves. I tried pasting links but it didn't work, sorry!

I use Polaner All Fruit, Raspberry. It's not overly sweet, but we like it.
Oh, they are so delicious! I can't wait to get busy with holiday baking!

Solo apricot is the best! My mom also makes raspberry but I only eat the apricot.

How do you make the pastery? Is it anything like rugelach?
