We are renting points and are set to leave in a week for 8 days.

As I started packing, I realized that I am not exatly sure what is in the kitchen, bathrooms etc - I only know the basic layout...

I know we won't have cleaning service and we will wash towels but are things like toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, hand soap, dishwashing soap already there?

We are stopping at a grocery store prior to check in and will be bringing things with us so suggestions on what to get and what not to would be great.

Also - we are taking our almost 3 yr old with us and we rather have her go to sleep first in the bedroom as opposed to the pull out couch so we can stay up for awhile. Do they have cots available or should I take an aurobed? I hate to transfer her everynight.

Any other tips for an OKW newbie would be great

None of the DVC resorts will provide additional bedding - you will have to bring your own.

As far as the supplies, I'm pretty sure that they will replenish your toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels upon request - no problem. We've never stayed as long as you'll be staying, but we've never run out of any of these items - there's a good supply to start with.

For the detergent, they give you only a starter set - enough for one load - you'll want to bring your own. A lot of people have suggested that the "tablets" travel well...

I believe that the bottle of dishwashing liquid is a pretty decent size - I'm not sure you'll need to bring extra.

There is no hand soap (liquid) - just your typical "Mickey" bar soaps.

Have a wonderful trip!

You have enough coffee for 2 pots, enough dishwasher powder for 2 or 4 loads, depending how much you use per load. You will have a trash and towel at day 4 and full clean day 8. If you see anyone in housekeeping as you walk the around you can ask them for some extras, they've always helped us. At OKW you may have to search for housekeeping, they are only near the units that are either checking out or the T&T day. At all the rest you can find them in the hallways all the time. You should take the aero bed, as Beth said. You have a full kitchen,All the pots and pans you need, toaster ,micro I believe if you need a blender they will get you one. It is an 8 oz. bottle of dw liquid, enough for the week.

Good luck, you,ve made a good choice. You'll love the 1 BR at OKW.

There's also a pak-n-play in the closet. Perhaps your almost 3 year old will sleep in that? BTW, the closet is big---she could even have her own little room within the room. My friend's dd turned the closet into her barbie play room when they were staying at DVC!

Have fun....

I always throw in a couple extra bars of soap - sometimes they don't provide one for the extra bathroom sink and the kitchen (you could also use liquid soap there). Also some foil if you want to wrap food up. We also throw in a nightlight so you have some light if you get up in the middle of the night.

I would just like to check something too!

Do they provide dish washing liquid for the kitchen sink, as well as the stuff for the dishwasher?! I'm sorry if some one has already explained this, but I get a bit confused by the different terms we use!:o :D

Yes, there is a small (6 oz?) bottle of liquid dish soap at the sink. It should be plenty for a week.

You'll want to bring extra dishwasher soap and laundry soap.

Yes, they provide both. I'm unclear about the dishwasher detergent. In the past, they always provided this and would gladly supply refills. In fact, I thought they preferred us using Disney's choice of detergent to keep the washers functioning right. Some posts now lead me to question whether this is still the case. Do they still give refills "on demand"?

A general rule to keep in mind is "ask". If there's some utensil or item that you'd like and it's not there, ask housekeeping. Sometimes it's an oversight or an item that is available by request.

Dishwashing detergent is provided and replenished as needed. If you run out, just call housekeeping and they'll bring more.

Hand soap is usually provided for each sink in the bathroom and bath soap is usually provided for the shower. These are normally replenished on trash/towel day.

As noted, you'll get a starter box of laundry detergent- if you'll need more than one, bring your own or it may be purchased for $1 per box.

Enjoy!

A thousand apologies but..... is dishwashing detergent the stuff for the sink, or the dishwasher? And is it just that you get more supplies of, or both?!

If you bring the aerobed and no one is using the sofa bed you could take the bedding for that to make up the aerobed. Extra coffee filters is one item I pack at home as we make several pots of coffee a day and I don't want to buy a pack of 200 while there. We had extra dishwasher soap last time we were there so guess it all depends on what housekeeping leaves when they clean the unit. The laundry tablets are easy to pack and work great. Hope you have a wonderful time

Bexx,
They give you both types of dish detergents - the liquid for the sink and pkgs. of powder for the dishwasher. Housekeeping will replenish both if you run out. Things like toilet paper, kleenex, paper towels will be replenished on request if you need them. You get more soap on T & T day but if for some reason you need more, they'll replenish that too. Coffee and laundry soap are the things you need to concern yourself with. If you are coffee drinkers bring filters or buy the coffer that already comes inside the filters. The tablets pack well. Softener sheets for the dryer in a sandwich baggie are great. I always bring a Shout stick with for stain removal. Others have suggested the color catcher stuff so that you can mix loads ( I haven't done that). Enjoy your trip. If you have a need - ASK. All they can say is no or that something would entail an extra charge (then you can make the decision). Hope this helps.

Do they provide extra blankets.
I know that most hotels, will give extra blankets.

I am traveling in December, and one blanket might not be enough.

Last time I stayed at OKW, we got really cold the first night.
It wasn't because it was cold outside, it was because we couldn't find the thermostat in our room.
The next day we asked someone where the thermostat was.

Thanks for your help everyone and, especially, living la vida Mickey! That's less to think about for the shopping list. It feels a bit silly worrying about cleaning stuff when you're going to Disney - but I'm just really glad I'm going to have a kitchen to clean in!! :teeth:

All the "supplies" I routinely take are Tide, sometimes hand soap, and baby wipes for little fannies and faces. We have never run out of any kind of dish soap. Another thing I pack is 5-ounce Dixie cups to use for the kids'quick drinks and also at the sinks. Don't like glasses in the bathrooms with the kids. We also take one or two cheap inflatable pool rings for the pool. We purchase a LOT of loaves of breads to feed the ducks. Winn Dixie has 99-cent bread and we can go through 10 loaves!

We usually call for an extra blanket and bed rails -- the beds are quite high. Never had any problem with these requests.

Great answers - thank you so much!

I already have 4 sample packets of Tide that I have been saving for this trip. Since there is only 3 of us - I think the starter pack and 4 more will be plenty. I also am bringing some dryer sheets in a ziplock and from many suggestions of the family board - SPRAY AND WASH STAIN STICK for the little ones MANY stains. This will cut down on lots of little laundry loads I would have to do.

I am so glad to hear I won't have to purchase paper towels, tissues etc..

I will bring the aurobed and a fitted sheet, top sheet. Will use the pull out couch blanket and pillow.

Thanks!

Also - I know the 3rd level is nice for views and no above noise, but I am thinking w/ a 3 yr old - I should try to request a first floor and near a bus station - right?

There aren't too many 1 bedrooms on the third floor, most are first and second. If you have a stroller, you might prefer the first floor. Unless you get buildings 62, 63 or 64, there are no elevators. If you will be using the busses alot, you may want to request near the bus stop. If you have a car, there's plenty of parking outside each building.

There are extra blankets and pillows in the closet.

At OKW, they have the dishwasher soap in a box rather than packets, so unless it's close to the bottom you'll have plenty.

Have a great time!
