What exactly is the Boardwalk, just a hotel or more?
Do you have to stay at one of the hotel's to visit the Boardwalk?
How does one find it?

I love the boardwalk. It is just that...a boardwalk. It wraps around a small body of water and has hotels (The Boardwalk, The Yacht/Beach Club, the Swan and the Dolphin) as well as Jellyrolls piano bar (great fun), a bakery, pizza window, the ESPN Club (also a lot of fun, but super crowded on a football Sunday), Spoodle, Big River Brewing Co. and some entertainment. You can rent Surrey bikes. It is really delightful. We try to make our way over there at least once on each trip.

The best way to get there is through the back entrance to Epcot (merge right when you leave England and hit France).

You can also take a boat from Epcot and possible MGM to get there.

The Boardwalk is a Hotel, Shopping, Dining, Entertainment district. There is literally a wooden Boardwalk along the edge of the Crescent Lake. There are entertainers out in the evenings along the Boardwalk, as well as all the dining and entertainment areas. It is bordered by the Boardwalk Inn and Villa's, and across the Lake from the Yacht and Beach Clubs. The Swan and Dolphin hotels are at the "head" of the circle with Epcot at the "feet" of the circle.
It is a great area and lots of fun. You do not need to be staying there to enjoy its charm. You can reach it via Disney buses, or either walking or takinaga the Friendship Launches from either Epcot or MGM.
Enjoy

The easiest way to get to the Boardwalk is to exit from the International Gateway at Epcot. That's in between the United Kingdom and France. It's a nice thing to do in the evening around 7:00. Then you can explore and come back into Epcot for Illuminations.

From MGM, you can take the Friendship boat which has stops at the Swan/Dolphin, then the Yacht/Beach Club, then the boardwalk and finally Epcot. It's quicker to get off at the first stop at the Swan/Dolphin and then walk over to the Boardwalk (just go over the bridge).

From Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney, take any bus for the Swan, Dolphin, yacht Club, Beach Club or Boardwalk.

If you drive, there is a parking lot across from the Boardwalk resort for nighttime visitors or you can valet. It's not recommended that you park in the resort parking lot and leave that for the guests who are staying there.

Thanks all.

I will be in Orlando for Christmas Eve only. My husband is flying home from Canada and I am driving down from Jacksonville to meet him. We are going to the Dolly Parton dinner show at 1pm, then Downtown Disney and hopefully the Broadwalk for the first time.

Happy Holidays.

Hi Cat!
The Boardwalk also has a few fun street performers in the evening.
If you stop by be sure to go in the lobby of the Boardwalk Hotel. There is a fantastic gingerbread creation with Donald and Daisy Duck.

Hugs!

Boardwalk views are the best in Disney IMHO.

Hi

Thanks Happy. We saw it.

We spent the morning at Downtown Disney and at the Dolly Christmas show, then we visited 4 hotels in WDW in the afternoon to see the decorations and ended up at the Broadwalk about 6:30pm. We only found 3 of the 5 hidden Mickeys on the gingerbread carousel because they had set up Santa next to it and there were lots of people. We had a great time.

The CMs were great everywhere we went. :)
