What exactly is Magical Express?

I apologize if I'm niave about this but I don't understand the concept. Is it that when you arrive at the airport in orlando, they carry your luggage for you to the resort, but you are with it the whole time? How much extra does this cost and is it worth it?

As I understand it, you check your luggage at your home airport and don't see it again until it magically shows up in your hotel room. You are also able to check in for your return flight from your hotel (provided you are flying with a participating airline) and check your bags there, too. Again, you don't see your bags until you get to your final destination (airport, not house! :) ). The service is free, they deal with the bags, you ride the bus, I'd say it's worth it. I also think I will reserve actual judgement until it has been going on for a while. I'm sure there will be some kinks that need to be worked out. I'm glad I'm not going until September!

"what exactly is magical express?" :scratchin well, If you read some other posts, I am
sure the general consensus would be very loudly-
A FREAKIN' NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek:
(sorry, venting a little...................... :rolleyes1

Magical Express is a free service. They have been doing it for years with the cruise ships. They have been testing it for the past few weeks at the parks. It the main complaint I have read is that the tags have not arrived for those using it in the next two weeks. A computer glitch or something. In those cases the worst part is having to actually wait for your bags and then get on the FREE bus. I for one am glad to see a free service that will save my family 60+ dollars and hopefully some time at the airport. Disney realizes the sooner you get to the parks, the happier you are, the more money you spend, and so on. :wizard:

There are some great threads on the transporation board about this service. I say do it and keep the extra money. :smooth:

You call Disney CRO and make a reservation for this service. Then (hopefully at some point!!!) they will send you special luggage tags (2 per person) that you will place on your checked luggage at your home airport. Then, when you arrive in Orlando (MCO) you go to the meet and greet area for DME where you will board a bus to your resort. Meanwhile, your bags will be taken directly from the plane area to a truck and then to your resort. You will see it again when you check in at your resort.

For your return trip, when you check-out of your resort, you leave your bags with bell services and play until it's time to leave via the bus. Then, you and your luggage hop on the bus and back to the airport you go.

Now, if you are flying on one of the participating airlines, we are on Song and it is one of them, you are able to actually 'check-in' for your flight at the resort front desk area. Your bags are then taken to MCO on a special truck. When it is time for you to leave, you hop on the DME bus, go to the airport and head right for the security area since you have already 'checked-in' back at the resort.

And it's all free...well, at least for 18 months or so. It seems they are having some issues at the moment getting it started but hopefully, within a few weeks it should all be fine.
