What exactly is "limited housekeeping"?

I've seen a number of references to "limited housekeeping service" as a down side to DVC. Exactly what extra responsibilities does this mean I have? If I want the bed made, I have to do it? The trash won't get emptied if it fills up? Does anyone feel that this detracts from their vacation enjoyment or is it no big whoop?

Thanks,
Scott

No, it's not a bad thing.

Every 4th day they come and take your trash and change towels. Every 8th(or at the end of your stay, whichever's first) they do the full room cleaning. The trash bins are bigger, and yes, on the days they don't come in, you do have to make your own bed. But it's not awful. And you can ask for daily service for a fee.

Scott, good questions ... It has been so long since we first bought that I don't remember if I had the same concerns or not - it probably crossed our minds for a moment. We do not mind not having daily housekeeping. Actually we prefer it! Yes, if we want our bed made, we have to do it. As for trash we frequently take it out when we leave the room - no big deal for us. We pass the trash room &/or trash on the way out.

Do you know the daily fee? Would it include dishwashing?

The 1, 2 & 3 Bedrooms include a dishwasher. We just load it as we use the dishes and when it's full, we run it. We don't have a dishwasher at home, so we think it is one of DVC's luxuries! ;) They also include a washer/dryer, we wash the towels if we run out before T & T day.

Before I bought DVC, I wasn't crazy about this either. But after being there, we prefer it. We don't have to worry about when the maid's going to come or leaving stuff out. It really becomes "home".

I thought I would hate not having daily housekeeping, but believe it or not I prefer it. It was always a hassle, getting out of the room on time, etc...................Then you come back and they didn't come yet. I don't mind making the bed, etc. As someone said it really feels like "Home".:)

I hate the day they do come because you never know when they will arrive and what you will be doing. Concerns over what is left out during this day is another thought. I really am glad one day per week is enough. This is not like a hotel room where you would be gone during the day.

This was a concern of mine before I became a member, but like most others, it's no big deal. I like not having housekeeping knocking on the door early in the morning. I don't mind making the bed, and I keep the room tidy. It does feel like home!:)
