What exactly IS cocktail attire?

So, I'm curious too. I don't mean to thread-jack (sorry ) but I am going to V&A's in three weeks for my 20th wedding anniversary. I got married young so I am ONLY (uh huh - that is me trying to convince myself that I'm not old ) 40. Can I wear this dress?

Is it a cocktail dress? I just ordered it so I really don't know what it will look like on. If you notice my tag, I'm a little worried about how low cut it is but I thought it was worth a try.

So, is it a cocktail dress? Is it dressy enough for V&A's? Oh heck. Maybe I should just wear a black t-shirt with a martini glass stenciled on it!!!

YES...it is perfect, just right very classy, it's your anniversary...the more that hangs out the better
