What exactly is a "commercial" link?? (earlier msg deleted...)

Someone posted earlier wanting a link to a certain website, and it was edited by a moderator, and said "no commercial links are allowed to be posted...". OK! So, once again, my question is "WHAT exactly is a commercial link?" The link the original poster was requesting, seemed to be the same "informative" type of website as mousesavers (even though the other website/service is a hot topic around here... ), and mousesavers is posted constantly!

Just looking for an answer without being "deleted" again...

I am not sure what site you are referring to but imo a commercial site is any site that sells things.

I'm not sure either..but I've heard this several times lateley...not srue where it came from. Looked up the Posting guideline and they say...

8. LINKS TO OTHER SITES: You are free to post a link to your web site on our discussion boards, provided that a) you are not offering a commercial service or for profit venture, b) you do not repeatedly and excessively post the same link over and over again on the forums within our site, and c) that you place a link back to the DIS (http://www.disneyinfo.com) on your site in an area easily found. From time to time you might wish to post links to other sites that contain information not found here on the DIS. While we encourage this, we ask that you please make sure the information is not already contained on our site (remember, the boards make up only 10% of our site).


So as long your not profiting from the website you should be able to post it? Apparently some Mods have taken this to mean that you can't post webiste such as Yahoo.com or even link to a newspaper report. Not really sure what they hope to acomplish by doing this?

There was a post a week or so ago about Alfredo's in Epcot..the poster wanted to post the link to the Companys website..but she was afraid to...so I did. Its not like any of us here are making money off of Alfredos

The site you are talking about does sell merchandise, along with the "free service" of gathering CRT PS for others. This site has also been "hotly debated" on several of the forums on the DIS. Because of this I am sure the WM & MODS are choosing (well within their rights) to in essence "ban" this site and discussion from the DIS.

Yeah I really don't have a problem with banning that site.(ugh !)

What gets me is the other "Comercial links" that are not allowed to Post ???? Like I've said they've got people afraid to post Newspaper links and headlines.

Not sure I really get that.

I have seen many links to other sites w/ no problems. And I have never seen a link to a news article edited out of the post. I guess if you aren't sure if it is allowed PM a mod and they will let you know.

I guess there is no moderator that is going to step up to the plate about this policy? Interesting the site in question is 'commercial' and therefore not allowed, but mouseplanet (on the site's home page lists mouseplanet shopping big as life), passporter (hello, that is where they sell those terrific books), etc. are all perfectively allowable. Technically a commercial site is a site ending in .com as that is what the 'com' stands for.
