What happened to the boat ride in AK? I know it's been a WHILE since its existence, but I remember wanting to ride it but it always being too crowded.

Why was it removed?

Thanks!

I HEARD and maybe someone can verify that they were meant as transportation only, but people thought it was some kind of ride. Not only were those who rode disappointed, but the lines were getting very long for something that wasn't a ride. Pulled the plug on them.

It was pretty much as if the lines to ride the Main Street Trolley were 90 mins long. It wasn't worth standing in line to travel a few hundred yards.

Allears reports they're back as a Character boat!

From Editor in Chief Deb Wills, who just spent the weekend in the World: Just a couple of observations from my trip:

--As of about a month ago, one of the former Discovery River Boats began sailing the Animal Kingdom waterways several times a day. Mickey and Minnie are on board, accompanied by a live band playing calypso-type music. It was a great surprise to see them from shore! Deb Koma caught a photo a few weeks ago:

FYI...they're using them at night for the Magical Gatherings Magical Fireworks Voyage (Peter Pan Fireworks Cruise)!!

Yep, i can verify this. When we went the last of June we got some food and the smoke tree bbq place and sat down at a table by the water. It was a nice supprise when the character boat came by playing music with Mickey and friends on it.

100% Correct. They were supposed to be the equivalent of the Friendship launches at Epcot, but for some reason everyone thought they were an attraction unto themselves.
