What else can we do!!

We are going to Orlando the end of February. We have three days filled up already with plans (MK, MGM, etc.). I have a Thursday afternoon and evening with nothing planned so far, and the whole day (morning, afternoon, evening) on Monday with nothing planned.

Anyone have any suggestions on things to do? We have an 18 month old, and we are looking for something more inexpensive then going to a park. We will be doing 2, and I think 3 may be alittle much for him, personally. We already have an afternoon/evening scheduled at Downtown Disney, which is one of my favorite places to walk around!!!!

I see that lots of people have read your post, but nobody replied!! Well here goes!! Have you considered resort hopping? Pick a couple of resorts and visit them to look around , maybe get a bite to eat. Try Fort Wilderness. You can get a bus, or the boat from MK, WL or CR. They have pools, (just plain pools) several playground areas, I think they still have a petting zoo, and the Trail's End Buffeteria. This is a buffet restaurant that is really good. It is one of the best kept secrets in WDW, and a good value for the money. In the early evenings, they usually do hay rides, and every evening they have a sing a long at the Camp Fire. Then they show 2 free disney movies. It isn't often that you find something free in WDW!!!!!

Even though I have never been there, the word is Animal Kingdom Lodge is a great place to visit also.

What about miniture golf. I think they have small clubs you could help him and take it slow. It isn't very busy and there are alot of fun things there for little ones. We took a 16 month old and she love the squirting water. And we let her just put the ball in the hole. Then walk across the street to the swan and Dolpin and down to the boardwalk. Lots of places to eat and shop.

I have not posted often on this site but I have been reading it at least once a week. Now that our trip is getting closer (Dec 04)lol I've spent several hours looking for things to do and ways to save money.

Here are some activities I've found surfing the net. I have not tried any of these so if anyone has information on them that would be helpful too.

ride the 'Mouse Boats'. (formerly 'Water Sprites) You get into a little speed boat and ride around the water. The best place to ride them is at the Grand Floridian Resort. You rent them in 1/2 hour sessions. At the Grand Floridian you get a great view of Cinderella Castle, the Wedding Pavilion and (of course) the Grand Floridian. It's a great way to cool off and they almost always have boats to rent.


Visit the petting farm or Tri-Circle D Ranch (home of the draft horses used pull the trolleys down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom), both of which are located at Ft. Wilderness. There are also pony rides at the petting farm from 9 am to 5 pm. Cost: free (except pony rides, which are about $2).

Someone mentioned the pools at Ft Wilderness ... those are only for people paying/staying at Ft Wilderness (just like any other hotel/resort pool) and are not for the general public or those staying at the other WDW resorts.

You don't say whether or not you are a WDW resort guest. If you are, you could go to the campfire and movie held at Ft. Wilderness. There have been heated debates about this, but the bottom line is that this is for WDW resort guests, not those staying off-site.

The Watermice can be expensive ... about $20 per 1/2 hr to rent. Max weight per boat is 300 lbs so you either see singles or 1 adult and 1 small child in a boat.

Besides Downtown Disney, have you thought about visiting Boardwalk. This is free and has street entertainers, carnival games, etc. There are two on-site mini-golf places, but I think they are $10 per person/per game.

Try dinner at the POR River Roost Lounge when Bob Jackson is performing ... this is guaranteed to be a highlight for you!!!

There are two miniature golf courses on Disney property. One has a Winterland/Christmas theme and the other is themed after the movie Fantasia. I believe the Winterland one is the "easier" of the two for younger children. There is also a Pirate Cove adventure golf offsite - it is just across the highway from Downtown Disney.

With an 18-month-old, I'd visit one or two Disney resorts. Our 19-month-old DD enjoyed walking/pushing her stroller around the paths and looking at the plantings and birds at the Polynesian (also the koi fish in the pond at the entrance) and riding the monorail. That was 14 years ago and we still have great memories---she actually enjoyed the resort a lot more than the parks, which were just too much for her (too loud, too many people, etc---she was easily overstimulated!)

Today, I'd also spend an afternoon/evening at AKL; the lobby and grounds are beautiful, and the animal-watching is great fun for kids and adults alike. Go in the late afternoon/early evening (just before dark) to see animal activity before they bed down for the night.
