What else besides WDW has this effect?

Well, 75th post. So as I sit here waiting to have the ears stapled to my head, I begin to ponder:
What else, besides Disney, can induce such a fanatical (I mean that in a good way) excitement in you?

For me, I'm ashamed to say, it is the annual county fair. I'm really weird about that. I know it is a collection of unsupervised rides, hastily assembled by... shall we say 'twitchy people who scratch just a bit too much'. And the large buildings are filled with people trying to sell me the latest technological advancements in salsa chopping, auto wax, and portable hot tubs. And I don't even want to think about all the doe-eyed cows, rabbits, pigs, and sheep, contentedly chewing and re-chewing their straw, completely unaware of what "Best of Show" really means.
But as a child, I spent many a blissfully happy year, riding on my grandfather's shoulders, merrily getting cotton candy stuck to his shortly cropped hair, and marveling at the bright balloon bobbing about, attached to my tiny wrist by a bit of ribbon or string. So I keep going back, year after year, in hopes of catching a glimpse, if even from afar, of those happy times.
Come to think of it, that last part is the same memory of childhood Disneyland.
... Now if I could just justify my addiction to fair food. Eggroll on a stick.... Mummmm....

hmm... I get so excited for Toby Keith and Joe Nichols concerts!! (We saw them together last Saturday - it was awesome).

Congrats on earning your ears!!!! :thumbsup2:

Our annual county fair is this weekend and I have to say that I too am looking forward to it. Not only because it signals the weekend before our annual Disney trip, but because it is just some down-home country-lovin' fun! I love seeing all the animals and of course eating all that its-bad-for-you-but-tastes-so-good food on a stick.

stina :thumbsup2

I love to plan vacations, so that always causes excitement for me. I love visiting someplace new, but also like the thrill of visiting somewhere that I know...such as WDW.
We've been on 2 cruises and I found that I obsessed about them the same as I do about planning Disney vacations.
Next year is a trip to Denmark, so I'll be obsessing over this once we return from WDW in Dec.

Planning (and paying) for my vacations, gives me a reason to go to work everyday :thumbsup2 .

EXACTLY!!

Disney and cruising are my two weaknesses. I get almost as excited about cruising as I do about Disney. I also work to pay for my vacation habit. :lovestruc

Aside form Disney..Kenny Chesney can do it for me.

And ANY food seems to taste better on a stick!

My family, first and last always. My reason for everything!

Disney vacations. I live for these.

Going to work (I'm a :teacher:) and I love my job.

Animals. All shapes and sizes.

And painting. :artist: Chills me out and helps me re-group.

I am quite passionate about everything I do, or I don't do them. Life is best, when you enjoy being alive. :wave2:

 I have to agree with cruising! If you've ever been to one of the cruise message boards you'll find cruise lovers have practically the same posts as Disney lovers! :goodvibes

I've noticed it's also the same a lot of the times when it comes to the second trip on either - usually the second cruise is not as perfect as the first, and the second Disney trip is not as perfect as the first, but it doesn't seem to matter if you're "hooked"!

I've also noticed that there's quite a few of both groups who decide that since they know so much about their subject that they think they want to become agents and start selling trips and no other vacations I know of seem to have this effect! :sunny: (The only problem with this is that you really have to think this through - it's all fun when you're looking and booking for yourself, but you'd be really surprised at all the complaints and problems you'll have to work through if you really get in the business :guilty: )

One of these days, I'll combine my two loves and take a Disney Cruise...it's just expensive, plus our "little one" is not so little anymore. She still loves WDW though :)

Hi Seahunt -
I do actually chat over on the Cruise Critics boards as well, but haven't been on in a few weeks.
I know what you mean about the cruises. I try and take each vacation and not compare to another. The only time that was really difficult was when we went to DL after being to WDW so many times. DL just doesn't compare. I did love CA Adventure, because it was something unique with touches of WDW.
As for cruising, each ship is beautiful and unique in their own way. We started off on a larger ship and went down a 1/2 size on our second, but we still had a great time and are already planning our cruise for 2008...Hawaii to celebrate our DD becoming a Senior in HS.
Cruisers are very loyal to a particular company and they love to show it, but when they are unhappy...they show it as well.
I've often thought I would like to be a travel agent, but might lose my love of planning for myself. Can't let that happen, that's 1/3 of the fun, along with 1/3 the actual trip and 1/3 scrapbooking it when we return.

I too get really excited about fairs around here. And apple picking... I love it! I can't wait to go this year!

Yay! I'll be seeing them in a few weeks!

Duran Duran does it for me. Although I've been very composed in recent years...I didn't rush the stage and maul Simon LeBon at the last concert...I didn't scream or cry or faint, although I did yell "I love you, Simon!" when they first came out. I just sang along and danced the whole time and tried to get one of them to notice my vanity license plate that I was holding up (at the end of the show, John Taylor finally saw me and waved!)
