I'm on the warpath against high utility bills and have succeded in lowering our water and electric bills. I'm not sure of the gas bill because it was estimated last month.

Its nice to see your efforts paying off. Last month's electric bill was the lowest since we've lived in this house--$86!!!! Usually it runs about $175 in winter months, $400+ in summer months.

I've declared war on the water bill. It was running around $120 month, until I started our "water conservation act". Last month's bill was $65! However, this month's bill was $76:confused3 Don't know where the extra usage came from, I think it was a leaky toilet I just discovered a few weeks ago.

Were a family of four, two adults, two kids, boy and girl. We have three full baths, run the dishwasher every night, everyone takes a shower every night, etc. We just started some simple things to save water, like not letting the water run while brushing your teeth, shaving, etc. Its amazing how much water is wasted right there! Other things, like not letting the kids play in the bathroom--ds would get in there and forget to come out! I found he was taking tub baths every night, despite me telling him not to, it wastes water. So, we just removed the stopper thingie from the drain! Also, trying not to run so many laundry loads, dh used to figure out what he wanted to wear every night, then throw it in the laundry. We now do laundry 2x week. Also, everyone is issued one towel and one wash cloth 2x week, I only wash towels once a week (seems before I was running towels almost every day!).

So, I'd be interested in what others water bills run and the things they do to save. I'm dreading the summer months, with watering the lawn and ac, our utilities are going to wipe us out!

Water bill? What water bill? No water bill here, we have a good old-fashioned well:cheer2: Actually the only plus to having a well is the fact that it's free:woohoo:

During the winter months our water runs $50 a month and thats with dishwasher daily, shower for 5 ppl daily and 2-3 loads of laundry daily. In the summer its quite a bit higher, usually about $90 a month.

Ours runs from 40 to 55, you never know what it is going to be. Still can't figure out how it vary that much from month to month.

I am in NJ and pay $200 for 3 months.

I got mine today, it was $35 which is pretty typical for us (family of 4). I do have a HE washing machine...I'm assuming that helps. We use the same towels all week, don't run the water while brushing teeth, use one cup per person per day, run the dishwasher about every other day and laundry wise I probably do 4-5 loads per week. We also take showers one right after the other every morning, so the water doesn't have a chance to cool off in the pipes between showers. My bill doesn't really fluctuate, regardless of the season.

Forgot to mention, our water bill also includes trash removal and sewer. Is that included on other people's bills?

One thing I did to save on the water bill--eliminate the late payment. We constantly got hit with a late charge, the bill wasn't mailed out with enough turnaround time to be processed. Even when I went directly to the water company and paid it we got hit with a late fee, because there was a lag in the processing/posting time. Honestly, we get the shutoff notice/late payment bill before getting the regular bill. I've managed to argue most of the late fees off, but it was such a hassle. Usually the late fees ran ~ $15 a month.

Last month I signed up for automatic bank draft. Sure was nice when we got our bill today, already paid! No late fee. I figure its gotta be a racket, but at least we got around the late fee. We pay through the nose already for utilities without paying extra fees on top of it!

My sewer is $100/qtr and trash is $42/qtr...so if I do the math that averages out to be $82 per month for water, sewer and trash.

in the winter time the water bill runs around $50-$60.. during summer it runs about $70..

Just got my electric bill and its $130.. woohoo.. Havent had a bill that low in a long time..

Hey my gas bill was only $58 for month of January in PA. WOOHOO,
Water is around $50-$65 per quarter. Sewer is about the same per quarter. Garbage is $250 year.

I'm in Mississippi. My water bill this month (including trash and sewer) was $76. My electric bill ranges from $130-$175 a month. (Summer is the highest)

Ours runs $75 ish in the Winter and upto $125 in the Summer because of watering the lawn. That's for 3 months and includes sewer.

Wow, water with trash and sewer?? Here in DE we have three seperate bills from three seperate companies. We get our sewer bill annually from the county. We just got ours and it was $450. Our water bill is quarterly, its usually just a little under $200.00 a little less during the winter and more during the summer as we have an inground pool. Our trash service is $76.00 per quarter for twice weekly pick-up.

We are a family of 4...2 boys, one is a tween and likes his showers:laughing: I do at least one full load of laundry every day. We only run the dishwasher when it is full. We have only one bathroom. Our water/sewer bill is around $120 quarterly. Our trash removal is not included in our taxes or water bill. We need to hire our own independent trash hauler. We pay $60 quarterly for trash removal (that is for ONE can a week!! What a rip-off!) Our electric bill runs between $70-90 a month. We have oil hot water radiator heat. We just had our oil tank filled today...185 gallons for $375...cha ching. We are on the auto-delivery plan, so they come every 6 or so weeks, give or take.

Everything keeps going up up up around here....and guess what? Our income never does! Imagine that!:confused3

Guess I should not be so unhappy. We have municipial utilities. Electric, water, sewer, and weekly trash/recycling comes on one bill. On the low end it runs $75/80 (winter) and $125/150 (summer) depending on temperature.

We're a family of 6. Everyone takes a shower daily. Sometimes DH takes two showers a day because he works out. We have 5 bathrooms. I sometimes run the dishwasher TWICE a day. Generally, only once. I do wash daily. Sometimes twice a day. Our water bill averages about $65-$70 a month.

Our bill is about $42 a month. That includes sewer and trash as well.

It stays very consistant for us. Rarely changes.

during the summer, I plant drought tollerant plants, and water the plants with extra water from around the house (like the kids get a cup of water, and drink one sip.. or when I clean out the fish aquarium, I water the plants with the old water).

Our water bill (not including sewer & trash which we pay to a different agency) is about $45 in the winter and $65 in the summer due to our sprinker system being on. Out here people are charged a surcharge if their water average goes up past a certain percentage in the summer. I don't think I've ever gotten hit with the surcharge. We have xeroscaping in the front yard and about 40% of the backyard is grass. We had to rip out some of our grass a few years back because we went over the allowable amount and got caught by the "grass police." The allowabe amount for grass is 30% of the total lot (including the house, & both front & back yard). Older homes that have lush yards are exempt.

Wow! I guess I'm lucky, I pay 29 amonth and that's sewer and trash. I have a family of four and we take showers and baths everyday, run the washing machine and dishwasher every day!
