Is it just a think of beauty that you look at and admire. Is there more to a garden and the person who tends it.

In my younger years I looked at it as a thing of beauty, I created this. As I've aged I find it has become so much a part of my life.

Between our troubled world and personal life crises I find I need my garden more and more each day. Each plant has become a part of me. The beauty and the thorn. I try to deal with the thorns. Gloves and long sleeves help but they don't protect me from the pain they cause.

I am dealing with a lot of pain in my life right now. I lost my best friend 2 week ago, just like my plants, a friend that I grew with. So I guess I need to deal with the thorns, feel their pain and hopefully they will answer some of my questions, calm my spirit and remind me of the beauty thats all around me.

Hugs Mamu. So sorry you lost a friend. :( The garden is indeed a place to reflect and become "grounded" - keeping perspective on what the meaning truly is of both positive and negative things that happen to us.

For me the garden is a place to apply my energy and see something tangible for my efforts. It is very rewarding for me. In addition, I enjoy the feel of dirt in my hands, and the smell of humus - because it reminds me of the simpler truths. Such as:

You reap what you sow.

You achieve better results when you care for something - versus just forcing things.

A good garden (and a good life) balances providing the basics of food, water, and protection from the elements... with higher level goals of beauty, insight, and longevity.

Sometimes the best garden path is one that meanders ... it gets you there all the same... but the journey is much more interesting.

Always a joy to spend time in the garden. Wishing you comfort in your loss.

Mamu, I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers.

My garden is theraputic. When I'm stressed, I go out in the garden and putter. I feel much better when I'm done. The garden is also something I can make beautiful just by pulling weeds.

It gets me out of the house and I kind of just forget the world or it gives me a place to contemplate something on my mind.

Mamu, so sorry to hear of your loss. you're in my thoughts and prayers.
I find solice and beauty in the garden. It's my place to escape. Having a cup of tea and thinking or pulling weeds it feels so good.
When we lost our beloved Piper all of us went outside to our own spot in the garden to mourn. It's become a safe haven when times are tough and they have been very tough on our family.

Oh Mamu, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :( {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} to you, my friend.

This may sound strange, but does anyone else ever blur their vision (do you what I mean?), when they are looking at their garden in full bloom? I do that sometimes, and it becomes an impressionist painting.

When I garden, I dream and think and plan. Silly dreams, big/small plans, and thoughts of every kind. A wandering place for my mind. Time slips by, and when I'm finished, a new plan may be hatched, an issue resolved, or a hurt comforted.

Sometimes it's the sweat and small aches, followed by the satisfaction that DixieDreamer mentions.....seeing something tangible for your efforts...that are all I need.

A garden can give you so much.

I'm sorry for your loss, Mamu. Life just never seems easy.

I used to love sitting in my garden and working. Peaceful. Hopeful. The world around me was happy.

For some reason, after my dad died, I lost that sense of harmony in my garden. I seem to use it to escape now....and there is a difference, I guess.

I'm so very sorry, Mamu. I don't know what to say.:( :(

My garden is many things to me. A place to be alone and work, a place to work with my Mom, a place for friends to gather, a place to hide from the 'real world', a place to just wander and wonder. I love my garden.
