What does this computer error message mean?

Every time I try and access a page, I get the following error:

A runtime error has occured - do you wish to debug? Then it goes on to list some "unterminated string constant" and a number. I just click no and then no again and it goes away, but it's bogging me down. What is causing this?

There is an error on that web page, and needs to be corrected by the website. If you are able to access a "contact" page on that site, you may want to let them know about the error.

If this happens on everypage, perform a deep spyware scan on your pc using Adaware, Spybot or SpySweeper, and a virus scan. Somthing running in memory associated with your browser (Or called by your browser when it detects a change in page) is crashing because it was pooly written (hence the unterminated string).

If it only happens on one page, use the post above

Thank you - it does happen on every page on every website. I've run a virus scan and nothing turns up - I guess I'll try one of the places you mentioned.

I get that error (twice on every page) on the Dis - but only at work... at home it's fine... we have pretty good software at work so I'm doubtful it's a virus... just annoying...

That's what happens - I get the error message twice. It doesn't happen on all websites, but most of them. It didn't use to happen, so I know something is going on with my computer.

Normally those kinds of errors are website related. They're called Javascript errors. The DIS currently has a number of errors in their different 'styles' of pages. I've use the Orlando Blue as it appears to have fewer errors. Post a message on the tech support board to ask for it to be resolved (I ask too much. )

As for other sites, you'd need to contact them also to see if there are in fact errrors. I do not think it's spyware related.

You can tell IE to stop showing you these errors by clicking on "Tools", then "Internet Options", then "Advanced" and put a checkmark next to the box that says "Disable Script Debugging".

Have you loaded any new software or visited a website that asked you to update Java? Not all Java implementations play well with one another. Certain applications at work refuse to work at all with Sun's Java interpreter. I found this out the hard way when I installed that particular implementation of Java and could no longer enter data into either our defect tracking database nor our timecard program.

You also may want to update your Java software...that could be causing the issue.

A virus checker wouldn't catch spyware that got installed, and turning off the error message, while it gets past the major annoyance, doesn't address the fact that you probably have some software running on your computer that you don't want, which is stealing performance from your system.

Then turn those messages on in your browser, and select the 'Happy Holidays' style. Try to DIS with it for 2 days. Then you can turn it back off.

Normally if it's spyware, it will tend to show itself in other ways, like not working at all.

If you're on the DIS, and it's an unterminated constant string, then it's the DIS. It's a documented error. Ask WebmasterAlex. If it's another site, that's why I suggested checking with their webmasters.

Funny enough, but the script that is broken on the Holidays style is the tracking code that the DIS uses to track you within their site.

Uhhhhh, that wouldn't happen to be Project Office, would it? That SAME extact thing just happened to me about 2 weeks ago.
