What does the veteran DO during the MK Flag Retreat ceremony?

I read about veterans taking part in the daily Flag Retreat ceremony at the MK @ 5 p.m. What exactly does the veteran DO as part of this ceremony? I'd like to ask my DH (Air Force Vet, Viet Nam era) if he would like to do this, but he'd never agree if there was a "speaking part". LOL

They walk up with the Security guards. They stand there while they fold the flag. Then the flag is presented to the veteran and he walks out with it and the guards. At the end they are presented with a very nice certificate and a special pin.
