In some port the ships are too large to actually dock at the pier. Instead boats are used to "tender" or ferry the passengers from the cruise ship to the pier.
The boats usually hold at least 100 people and some more/some less depending on the port. The tenders will run the whole time the ship is in port. Sometimes, though, in bad weather if it is too windy or water too choppy they will suspend tender. In that case if you have an excursion booked with
DCL and you can't make it because they can't tender they will reimburse you.
