What does "open late" mean these days??

I found a Magic Kingdom brochure from 1997 in my scrapbook and the hours were 9-Midnight on a Tuesday in June.

Now, it seems that MK closes at 7 and considers 9pm a late closing. What are the latest hours the park stays open these days? Is 9pm it? Even in the summer?

Or is it that they just want to make you pay $12 extra to stay until midnight?

We were at Disney this past January 1st and 2nd and the MK was open until midnight both nights and then until 11:00 on Jan 3rd and 4th. It was weird because on Jan 1st, the park was empty late at night. On January 2nd, it was packed right up until midnight, go figure.

Late MK hours for June, July are generally 11pm. Hours vary throughout the year and are based on projected attendance.
Epcot is open till 9pm year-round (later during extreme peak times ie- Christmas-New Year's)
MGM Studios summer hours vary between 9 and 11pm.
DAK hours vary between 5pm and 7pm.
