What does AKL do for B-day since they can't have ballons there?

Hey,
I just read that AKL doesn't allow ballons even the ones that you buy from the parks. They have to hold them at front desk for rest of stay. I know that usually when you have a B-day then they send a card and ballons to room. What does AKL do since they don't have ballons due to the issue of animal care? Does anyone know??
Thanks

I am not sure what they would do at AKL. I just wanted to let you know, just in case you didn't, that they don't usually do anything for birthdays. Hundreds of people haven't even had someone say Happy Birthday to them. Unless you pay for and arrange it yourself. I just don't want you to be disappointed, in case you thought everyone got something.

When we have went to Disney with a family member that had a b-day, Disney has always done something extra and for free. You have to let them know and ask. Sorry you have never maybe had it happen but Disney has always done things extra for B-days. If you stay on site at a Disney hotel they will put ballons and card and give you a B-day phone call with no cost. That is why I asked if anyone knew how AKL did it sense they can't have ballons around the hotel.

You've been lucky. If you were to check back through posts on this board, you will find posts by many who have had special occasions noted by the resort staff and have received nothing. That doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. It just doesn't always happen.

It might depend on the resort, and on who's birthday it is. We celebrated DH's 40th at POR, and you'd have thought I'd asked the frontdesk / concierge CM to violate Homeland security when I asked for a b-day card signed by Eeyore. This after I had just dropped a small fortune on birthday loot in the gift shop.

The following year, we celebrated DD's 8th birthday at WL and we got balloons and two cards - one signed by Cinderella and one by the front desk staff (which she treasure even more than Cindy's card :rotfl: ). They also gave her a Magical Moments certificate upon check in (I had her b-day noted on the ressie).

The two main differences in these situations were: adult b'day vs. child b'day and deluxe vs. moderate resort. You are right - the goofy call is free - you don't even have to be staying onsite as DD was stopped by a CM in Epcot and told she had a phone call for the b'day princess (she was wearing the b'day button). But the other poster is also right - plenty of people don't get special surprises.

1) AKL can still do an autographed card (not for all characters, but a lot of them).
2) The other resorts can do autographed cards and balloons.
3) Just ask for them.
4) If you get a cold reaction from Front Desk or Concierge, ask for a manager.

NOTE: Balloons are handled by the "Front Desk Runner", who also has other duties. So, the cards and balloons may not be done on a specific day or at a specific time. But, they will be done. I know many people posting here give excuses why balloons might not get done, but, this is a specific function of the "Runner". Sometimes, Front Desk or Concierge will help, but it is not mandatory.

My DD got a birthday button and was treated like a Princess the whole time she was there. She also got a card that said Happy Birthday with her name on it. This was 2 years ago for MVMCP.

During this past year and into the next for YOAMD there are special "It's My Birthday" buttons that are given to adults or children whose birthday is noted on a ressie or who inform the front desk upon check in that they have someone in their party celebrating a birthday. They will write the guest's name in black magic marker- I've always seen plenty of guests either wearing this button or the one for honeymoons, first-timer's, etc. You may not get a signed card unless you ask as now the buttons are what is standard but the OP is correct, there will be no balloons given at AKL.---Kathy

When we stayed at BCV for 10 days this past summer, at check-in I asked the front desk cast member for a number of who I could call to arrange to have balloons sent to my DD later in the week on her b-day. I told her I didn't care about the price.

She replied, "Oh we do that. You don't need to arrange anything". She assured me that DD would get a card & balloons. Well, even after reminding them later in the week...all that came was a card late in the evening on her b-day.

We'll be there again on her b-day next August....this time, I'll know better & arrange for balloons myself!!

When we were there for DS and DH's birthdays, nothing special was done. DS wore a pin to the parks and everyone did say "Happy Birthday" to him, but other than that, nothing.

Hi,
The WDW resorts do not automatically send a card and ballons to your room if it is noted on your reservation that there is a birthday during your stay. Some people might have been lucky enough to get some pixie dust on their stay but it not a standard thing that they do. You can order stuff from the Disney Florist but I would think that they would be aware of the no ballons rule and would advise accordingly.

So if they do decide to sprinkle some pixie dust they just do it without ballons.
