What do you wear in summer?

From what I have read so far, summer sounds as though it is going to be hot during the day (and sometimes very hot) but very dry.

I wonder what the evenings are like, however - does the temperatures drop quite a bit - do you take a sweater to wear if you are staying out late?

Also we usually wear crocs on our feet in Florida - the rain goes right through and they're soon dry again - don't have this worry here, right
My DD likes wearing her Converse (hi-tops) at home but I wonder if these will be comfortable for her to wear all day in California - they are so flat. I wondered what you regulars tend to wear on your feet?

Some people swear by crocs but whenever I see someone wearing them I laugh. To myself. ;)

In any case some do wear them at DLR but not because of the rain. Rain is highly unlikely in the summer.

We leave our room at 6:15-6:30AM on MM days and 7:30AM on non-MM days in our tee-shirts, shorts and sneakers/tennis shoes (not sure what you would call them across the pond), we take an afternoon break, and then are out until late - often midnight. Still wearing shorts and tee-shirts. Converse shoes will work fine.

A sweater? At DLR, no, we never even think about it. We usually also visit the beach in the summer and all of us have sweaters on hand for night time at the beach. But at DLR the thought has never crossed our mind. :) That is one of the reasons summer is my favorite time to visit DLR.

Sometimes at night I need a sweatshirt (sweater:)) and I always tend to change my shoes in the afternoon, just becuase changing it up sometimes makes my feet feel better!!

We live in the Midwest so we are used to extreme cold and hot weather, that being said...

My comments are based on many years of being at DLR the first two weeks in July.

Mornings and after the sun sets can be pretty chilly. Chilly enough that when my children were little I would put long pants and sweatshirts on them at sunset most nights.

As an adult I can only remember a handfull of early mornings/nights were I didn't have a sweatshirt on (but would usually stay in shorts or capris). There have been several nights where I opted for long pants as well. There can easily be a 20 degree temp swing between mornings/nights and the middle of the day.

Inside DL and DCA it will be warmer than outside the berm. So if you have a ways to walk to and from your hotel it will be even chiller during that walk than when you are in the parks.

I don't remember it ever being so hot we were dripping in sweat, like we were in the summers at WDW. That's probably due to the lack of humidity in California.

I'd never go to DLR without packing sweaters, sweatshirts, capris and a pair of long pants. Just thinking about seeing families waiting for F! shivering reminds me to pack those things.

How hot it gets and if you need a sweater will depend on what you are used to. To me it is a sweltering hot box even at 80, so anything above that I am miserable.
I never need a sweater in The summer months, at DL it is shorts, short sleeves all day all night. Mister fan and tons of Frozen water bottles. I wear crocs I can hear hydroguy laughing! :rotfl2: but you can walk thru Water to cool off your feet and not worry about ruining the shoes :goodvibes

I agree I think it depends on what you are used to.

I live in northern cal and it gets pretty hot here in the summer. I DO usually take a jacket though even in summer because as dsnymom said usually in the early morn and late at night it can still be a bit chilly and I run cold anyways. In the summer I usually wear shorts and t-shirts and just wear a jacket till it warms up enough to take it off. Sometimes inside certain bldgs too they crank the AC to sub zero so it is nice to have a jacket for that as well! I know last sumer I went to D.C. and it was sweltering outside but I had to buy a sweatshirt for inside the smithsonian because it was SO flippin cold with the AC!!

So if you THINK you may get chilly at all it doesn't hurt to bring a lightweight jacket. Esp for the plane ride as I ALWAYS get cold on the stupid airplane.

Good luck and have a blast!

It really depends on what part of summer you are coming. Early summer you need a light sweater and maybe long pants for early morning and night. Mid summer, shorts and short sleeves will be fine. Late summer, it will be hot. Dry, but hot. So wear cool clothes and comfortable shoes. To me converse are never comfy for a long day. Crocs are ugly, but comfy. You aren't there to make a fashion statement but to have fun. I remember the old days when you had to be dressed nicely or they wouldn't let you in!!

Another N CA person here and usually take a hoodie for the evenings. Years ago when my kiddos were little and we didn't go back to the motel, I packed a diaper type bag with little sweat pants and hoodies for the kids and mom/dad and got a locker when we walked in. Just slid the sweats on over the shorts and put on the hoodies. Usually wear tennis shoes to DL. Now starting to wear Tevas though as the older I get, the more I like my tootsies to be free or any restrictions. I'm also not a Croc person as I don't like rubber or whatever it's made of.

In N. CA central valley, the weather is similar to LA and we don't do hoodies in the summer evenings but I think with the ocean being a little closer to Anaheim (even though it's a ways away), I think it adds a coolness that makes their 70 degrees a little cooler than our 70 degrees here in the central valley. My relatves from England were always cold so they brought their jackets however, durng the day if it was 50 degrees but the sun was out, they'd be out in their bathing suit trying for a tan. I still have a pix of my aunt in her short shorts trying for a tan and us in hoodies. She tried hard but never got her tan.

I dont care how ugly they are or how out of style they are I will always wear my crocs...Also, Ive heard from many many people who wore converse that it was the worse mistake they have ever made, like OP said, too flat!

Hubby just got a pair of crocs to wear when were there, in two weeks!!!!:thumbsup2

I would definately take a jacket/sweatshirt/sweater for evenings. Sometimes inside the buildings/restaurant is colder than outside, but once the sun goes down so does the temperature.
I can't wear crocs, if she's comfortable in converse tennis shoes they shouldn't be too warm. DD and her friends wear Rainbow sandals or slip on tennis shoes.

I wear shorts and a tank top during the day. We usually get a nice dinner, so I will wear a short sleeved cotton button down shirt over my tank top. I may or may not keep it on after dinner. I have never been cold in Disneyland during the summer!!

We enjoy the August weather, last year it was bit more mild than what we are used to. It is always shorts, tanks, cover shirt, crocs and tennies for me. Just have to stay hydrated.

And if I was there and saw you, this would be me: :rotfl:

;)

I will admit, I have and will wear my converse to DLR again and I have never had a problem with my feet afterwards. BUT I also have some totally awesome insoles for them, lol, so I'm sure that helps. Without them I'd have to agree - way to flat any uor feet would be threatening murder.

During the day, my motto is less is more. It is hot! I have no problem walking out of the hotel first thing in the morning in shorts and a tank top all the way through the night. But I do tend to take a light sweater, but it's mostly because I get very, very cold when I eat. But if you get a locker, it can just stay in there until you need it if you do get a chill at night.

And I love my crocs!! Perfect for the summer ;)

OK, well this questioned is aimed right towards me because we usually go in August.
Yes it is very hot, but there are some ways to help beat the heat. :cool1:

Arrive at the parks for opening!! If you are staying on property, take advantage of the early/evening extra magic hours!

So we're usually at the parks very early, so it is still rather cool out. Well, I guess I shouldn't say "cool", but for Florida in August it's a good temp.

I usually wear a tank top and shorts. If you have a top that wics moisture, like some kind of sports top, that will help. Or even like a tankini top to a bathing suit.
I also bring a plastic baggie of extra clothes if I plan on doing any water rides. (I can't stand wet clothes!!-though they dry quickly because of the heat)

Then early afternoon we usually head back to our hotel for lunch and time to relax. This is a good time to swim, cause this is the hottest part of the day! So esp. if you have young kids, heading back to the room for the afternoon is a GOOD idea. But either way, we like it because it gives everyone time to relax. This also gives us time to get changed and showered for the night. Same thing for opening, I usually wear a tank/shorts...well, I usually wear a dress a something for dinner. But I usally change into some kind of sandals or flip flops to give my feet a break from sneakers..plus were not doing as much running around.

Around 4 we usually the hotel and go to dinner (depending on dinner times), then head back to the parks and stay there till closing.
It's still always hot then so you really don't need a sweater, but you may want one for eating in the air-conditioning or air-conditioned rides. Other then that, you typically do not need a sweater at all in the parks.

*Crocs seem like a great thing to wear. They're not really my style, but I can't lie I have thought about wearing them! Usually I wear sneakers though, and I always bring lots of flip flops and sandals.
*Converses are probably ok, they do seem like they might be kind of flat though if you plan on doing a lot of walking/running around. But if he's comfortable in them, they'll probably be ok.

Ahhh! Have a great trip!!! :rotfl:

On our last trip, late last June at night DH would just still have his shorts and tshirt and I would have to put on a light jacket. Our 2 year old was cold and had on jeans, long sleeve tee and a jacket. In the mornings it would warm up really fast.

I have been in July and August. I wear a tank top and shorts and flip flops, that is what I am comfortable in. I haven't gotten cold at night and we normally stay until closing. We do bring light blankets (that fold up small) for our kids to wrap around them if they get cold in the evening. DH always wears tennis shoes, I think for shoes wear whatever you wear most of the time and you will be comfortable.

I'll chime in with others who have said it depends where you're from. Living in Los Angeles, I swear, my blood has thinned and I'm cold if it drops below 70. I always wear a sweatshirt in the am and when the sun goes down. But I'm okay in short sleeves, shorts and sandals. No need for long pants or sneakers when it cools off. Also depends on what month of summer. The June gloom can be cold. But we've been getting the June gloom in May the last couple of years.

Just check the weather report before you come - they are usually pretty accurate - and dress the way you would at home.
