Hi,

I'm still trying to figure out which resort I should stay at in Jan. Originally I was going in Feb, but with the cheap BRP rates in January I decided to move it.

Would you stay 5 nights at Poly Jan 16-21 or AKL Jan 16-23.

More nights are definitely a plus. However, what theming appeals to you most? AKL is an incredibly beautiful resort. I love the theming, the colors, the music, the smells, Bomas, Mara's...My problem with AKL, which is a big plus to many, is that once you are there, you are there. I felt very restricted while staying there. The Polynesian is my favorite resort. The theming, the grounds and meandering pathways, the lit Tiki lights and softly played music, the rooms, the friendliness of staff (I just love all those Aloha's!), the proximity and ease of transportation to the MK, Epcot, GF, CR and WL, the constant views of the MK, GF, CR, ferry, and monorail (these are especially breathtaking at nights when everything is lit up)....I could go on and on. Location is a definite plus. In addition, one's options seem so much greater when staying at the Polynesian. Decisions, decisions. I hope you reach one that you are comfortable with. Personally, I'd take the Poly at 5 days over AKL at 7.

More Disney time is always better for us. You can always resort hop and visit or eat at another resort without actually staying there. I would pick 7 nights over 5 any day. They are both nice resorts.

Another vote for the seven nights at AKL. It is true that you are futher out, but the bus service is good (or you can rent a car!). AKL is lovely, has excellent restaurants, and the pool is zero-entry and you can use it 24 hours.

The Poly is great too, but I would take the opportunity to stay as long as possible!

I had to make that same type of decision recently too. Instead of 8 nights at the BC, we are staying 10 at WL. They are both great resorts, so I went with more is better!

In May 2004 we split our stay between AKL and the Poly. AKL was awesome and we will definitely stay there again. But my wife and I agreed we would not want to spend an entire stay there because it feels isolated from the rest of WDW.

I LOVE the Poly, but the AKL was a great resort too. And the bus service is GREAT (and we were there during a slow time and never had a long wait).

I would go with the longer trip.

Last January we split our stay at 2 first time resorts, AKL and the Poly. We were very excited to be trying the Poly, but after getting there wished we were back at AKL. We loved the far away feel of the resort as you go up the drive. I hated that our only option often at night to go from MK to the Poly was the monorail. The boats didn't run often in January d/t the weather. And I am not a big monorail fan at all. Bus transportation was much better at AKL then at the Poly. And this is probably just me, but I found that $200 a night for a room is just more than I want to pay...........way to many other ways to use the money and the Poly just wasn't special enough for us to be worth it.........but I think we are in a minority here.
Have a wonderful time.

I agree more is better. And we are definitely getting away from staying at more than one place on our trips. We had some minor problems changing resorts a couple of times, and just decided to leave well enough alone and stay in one place and not risk any trumoil in changing.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and booked AKL-Standard for 1/16-1/23.

7 nights at the AKL. Especially since you saved money by moving your trip in the first place, I'd definately take advantage of staying longer!!

Staying more nights is an attractive option, but it's still a tough choice. In September, I spent six nights at Poly and two nights at AKL. I loved the Poly and enjoyed being right across the lagoon from the Magic Kingdom and within view of the Grand Floridian and Contemporary. The Monorail is neat as well. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the AKL nearly as much as the Poly. While the AKL is magnificent by any standard, its remote, isolated feeling left me cold. I felt like I was no longer at WDW and really missed the Poly while I was at AKL.

I guess it's a good thing I decided to stick with AKL, because I was able to get a really great deal because of a PIN code I had attached to my name.

More nights definitely - i love the poly, but AKL looks great too - would definitely do the extra nights if you can spare the time.
