I've heard several sides of this so I'm wondering what you-all think.
Should a public middle school that does not allow celebrating ANY holiday allow Flowergrams to be sent to friends on St. Patrick's Day? Also, should Flowergrams be allowed at all in a middle school?

I think they should allow them. They're fun! Lots of the fun of holidays has already been sucked out of the public schools. Let 'em celebrate when they can! :thumbsup2

I don't mind kids in school celebrating holidays, but I don't think flowergrams should be allowed at any grade level of school.

I used to hate it in high school when the student council sold flowers for Valentine's Day that were delivered during homeroom. The girls who got them paraded them around all day, while those of us who didn't felt like crap.

At the school where I work, we don't allow any kind of gift or flower exchanges (in school) for any holiday.

I don't mind them. My school does "candy cane messages" for christmas and "Valentine's Day messages" for V-day (obviously). I think they are cute and can be a good fundraiser. Most of my friends are single, so we buy them for eachother. We each end up with like 5. But they aren't really that big of a deal. And the teachers are real discreet when they hand them out. Its not like people don't know whats going on, but the teachers don't announce "OK, John got one and Sue got one, and WOW!!! Bob got 20!" LOL. In Middle school, though, we did candy cane messages and they were a big deal. I still have the ones I got in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (and I'm in 10th now, so that was like 4 years ago) But we still didn't go around showing off that we got 5 while that person only got 1. They usually went right into our lockers or purse unless we decided to eat the candy cane or lolli pop.

I've got a DD in 7th grade. Her school did a carnation thing at Val. Day...kids pre-purchased flowers for their friends & they were delivered on Val. Day.
I'm o.k. with it. She got 5 or 6 from girls & 3 from a boy in her math class.

I might feel differently about it if she did not receive any & was upset about it.

We had these when I was in middle school, and high school. I never got any. Big deal. I was hurt at the time, but I got over it, and I am not scarred for life. I think they should be allowed to do these, they're fun!
