Summer :sunny: months - in Florida bring afternoon thunder boomers.
What do you think of flying in at 2:30 PM to MCO ?

I am a wee bit nervous about thunder storms and planes (MD-80's).

Thanks :flower:

It's a gamble, but so is flying to central florida any time during the summer. In all seriousness, check the farmers almanac. It still has a pretty high accuracy for weather forecasting far out. I use it for event planning all the time. If there are storms, as has often been said, they tend to be short, so you shouldn't be delayed horribly. (That of course opens this forum for tales of horrible delays)

I now try to fly into MCO before 1ish if I can. I have flown in several times in the summer and have seen quite the 'light show' that Mother Nature provides. My poor dd was sure she was going to die on our flight in in Aug '03!!! But, the whole week was a week long thunderstorm that year!!!
We have actually been delayed getting back to Boston in the summer because of afternoon storms in NE...so MCO isn't the only one with those issues. But, 2:30 might be okay...you are getting close to that time of day when the heavens break open. Don't worry too much.

I wouldn't worry too much -- the MD80 is a great plane, and the pilots aren't going to take any chances. They are professionals, you know... If worse comes to worse, you spend 20 minutes in a holding pattern before making your final approach.

Worse that will happen is you will hold over the airport until the storm clears. We got held in the air for about 20 minutes on our June trip until a storm moved out of Orlando. Honestly, in Florida, you can have storms pretty much anytime of the day.
