What do you think - any chance Matterhorn will re-open early?

We're planning our first trip to DLR for June 2-7. We were going the week of June 15, in part because I wanted to be able to ride Matterhorn, but we pushed our trip earlier because the thought of the CarsLand crowds terrified me. So speculate with me . . . any chance that Matterhorn might re-open earlier than the June 15 predicted date? Or do you think that is probably a firm date like the CarsLand date?

Obviously its STRICTLY a guess, but I'm guessing even if they open it a bit earlier, it may be a few days of soft openings at best IMO. I think like maybe 2-3 days tops. I dont see a full week of soft opening, its probably pushing it.

That said, who knows?

But to be honest with you, I dont think it would be that crazy if you go the 10th-15th! The onslaught of the DCA 2.0 crowds really wont be until the 14th on and basically can see Matterhorn on your final day. AND you may be lucky enough to get some soft openings of Carlsland too! I'm guessing you see it differently, but really I think you will be fine until the 14th and even on the 15th, it will mainly be all about DCA so DL will be busy, but nothing out of the ordinary with everyone going to DCA IMO.

I haven't seen any great indication that they are behind or ahead with the rehab. In the end it could open early or late. It's hard to say on long term rehabs.

Just got back this morning from 4 days at DL -- we were surprised by the extent of the work on the Matterhorn. We knew they were re-doing the ride vehicles themselves, but the entire attraction is surrounded by scaffolding and they appear to be doing a lot of structural work inside and out (by that I mean they appear to be working on everything inside and out -- it could be maintenance/painting that wouldn't be strictly "structural," but what I mean is that they are working on the entire structure). Certainly lots of activity, and they know how to schedule their work, but given the extent of it I would be surprised if they opened much before the scheduled date....

Yes they are doing quite the job! I could never figure out why they told us several years ago about the new ride vehicles, and then had several sitting covered at the attraction for some time. If I remember correctly they were going to put them in two years ago. But I guess it was decided to do a major overhaul first. I thought I had read recently that they are also currently putting a few added touches inside the mountain itself, and one being on the climb as you start the ride. I will have to go back and find that weekly update article link. It was on Miceage.

They made kind of a big deal over the 6/15 opening date on the blog, but I would not be surprised if they were doing soft openings a week or so before. (Though I also wouldn't be surprised if they waited until just a few days before the scheduled date to do soft openings. And I'd be mildly surprised, but not shocked, if they didn't do soft openings at all.)

The Matterhorn's anniversary is actually 6/14 so I'd be a bit surprised if it didn't do a soft opening on or before that date, but that's a week after you leave.... :flower3:

Last summer it was supposed to be closed for most of our trip, but we found that it was open much more than it was closed. So you never know!

It wasn't supposed to be close. You heard a rumor that was prooved untrue.

So have you seen any soft openings?

Honestly as I said when it was first posted, I dont see any soft openings until maybe a few days before official opening. Or it may not open until the 15th. I DO think if it doesnt open any sooner it will probably open the 14th because that day DL will be the only park open and may be extra busy so maybe a good way to alleviate the crowds a bit.

But I dont see it opening anytime this week at least, thats for sure!

From today's weekly update from MP:

"We're hearing that the Matterhorn will likely have a "soft-opening" preview on Thursday, June 14."

"Soft opening previews are unconfirmed, and plans may change at any time."

Here's the original quote:
...We're hearing that the Matterhorn will likely have a "soft-opening" preview on Thursday,
June 14. This is the day Disney California Adventure is closed for the Cars Land media
preview event, leaving only Disneyland open to the public. Though the Matterhorn does not
officially reopen until June 15th, Disney probably wants to "surprise and delight" Disneyland
visitors with a sneak peek. As always, soft opening previews are unconfirmed, and plans may
change at any time.

We were there yesterday morning and did see the Matterhorn running while we were on the monorail. However, it appeared that it was only cast members who were riding as they were the only one's I saw in the queue.

Could you imagine having that as one of your assigned duties at work? :goodvibes
