I work at the Courthouse in the county I live in. We have been without a contract since the first of the year (nothing new, seems we are always without a contract). Last year, our percentage that we pay of our insurance premium went up 5%. To compensate for that change, we got to have another personal day. This year, our county executive wants to raise our percentage to 25%!!! Needless to say, people are NOT happy. What makes it all worse, there was an article in the newspaper, and she was quoted as saying that the trade-off for the increase in what we pay is the fact that we have a job!! I, and everyone in the office for that matter, was shocked! Hopefully, she is just ruining her chances for re-election with this!!

I think you are experiencing what a lot of us are. My dh works for a major newspaper chain. Two years ago, our "share" of the insurance charge went up 100%. Last year, it only rose by about 40%. The result is that even with two raises in the 3% range, his take-home pay is less than two years ago. Also, our co-pays for office visits, prescription drugs, etc., went up -- in some cases by 300%.
