What do you think about the upgrades to SSR/OKW?

Am I the only one who thinks it's unfair to have to pay for SSR when they are giving away upgrades? Please no flames but just want to hear from those who had to pay for SSR or OKW studios and 1BR villas. What do you think about the upgrade from value to SSR and OKW. We should at least get an upgrade.

The same as I think about all the codes, etc that people always seem to get...yay for them, I'm happy Disney is giving people some extra magic!

I know it doesn't seem fair, but Disney only promises people will get exactly what they pay for...if people happen to get lucky and get a free upgrade, that's just a bonus. You never know what pixie dust you'll get - if not on this trip, maybe the next one.

I know it can be frustrating...I paid for a Beach Club room last year and I kept hearing about people getting free upgrades and I was so frustrated because I was spending a fortune...but then when I checked in I got upgraded to concierge, so it was that much more exciting.

So keep smiling - you're at Disney World and will have a great time with your family, regardless of what other people paid. If you're going on a deal, you paid less than people that paid rack rate just because you knew about the offer!

To me it sounds like they overbooked the values and decided to move a bunch of people. But it sounds a lot nicer to say they got "upgraded" instead of saying that they "overbooked."

No flames here. I think they should be upgrading those that aren't on free dining. I mean it is a bit ridiculous for the Free dining people to get upgraded from a Value to a Deluxe and get free dining at the same time. Not flaming anyone who has gotten this great deal, and I am sure I would take it if it came to me, but it doesn't feel right. Bump them up to the Mod's or bump up the Mod to the Deluxe, but Disney doesn't seem to make much sense these days. As a DVC owner I am not happy that they have so much extra rooms at the OKW or SSR to have all these free dining people upgrading. They better not affect a DVC member who need to use points during those dates. Now those resorts are going to be over crowded. What happened to not using two PINs at the same time?? Why can someone get a Free dining discount and then a Free upgrade PIN at the same time?

I'm a DVC member as well and I'm happy for the guest. We purchase DVC as a long term savings plan. DVC is not an investment, it's for nice hotel stays. The free upgrades are during the low season anyway. You never know the guest may buy into DVC which is great for everyone.

Any time you travel, you will be surrounded by people who have paid more than you and people who have paid less. Unless people start discussing how much they paid, you will never know who falls in which category. Most people on your flight down to WDW will have each paid different prices but somehow that doesn't bother you.

The more people that have to be shifted, the more work it is for CMs. OKW and SSR must be the resorts with the most availability so people are being upgraded to that resort. Upgrading people to a mod and then having to upgrade others from the mods to the deluxes would mean twice the work. Disney is a business so they want to do the least amount of work. In addition, they're likely having a lot less trouble booking the mods so why further fill them up when there's still a possibility of getting people trying to book them? Anybody who's right now trying to book a value and finds them filled will try the mods. They don't want to fill them with upgrades because then people kind of teetering on the brink of booking will not book if they start off looking for value prices and then can't even get mod prices. It's simple business.

I try to look at what I can afford and what feel the value of my vacation is. If I can get a price that I can afford and I feel it's a good deal, then I'm perfectly happy. I try not to think about what other people get. I know that some people get better deals than I do. I'm happy for them. Yes, I do get pangs of jealousy, but I work VERY hard to push that aside and refocus on just how grateful I am that my family is even able to continue enjoying our WDW vacations. Just going to WDW is pixie dust for us. It's the only place in the world that I know of that we can vacation so stress free due to multiple special needs.

Please don't consider this a flame because it wasn't intended that way. I was just trying to share other possible views which may help seeing your glass as half full.

This is not the first time this has happened. It happened to us in Aug.2006. We were lucky enough to get the exact free upgrade as they are offering now. Disney is all about filling rooms so if offering these upgrades open more value rooms for them to book then we just have to let it go. This August we are staying in WL so no upgrade for us this time.

That's an interesting point, I hadn't thought about that. Not sure I'm remembering this correctly, but last year when Disney offered the free dining bounceback for this year, wasn't there a special deal for those who booked SSR or OKW whereby they got free dining and a discount on the room? Anyone else remember that? Maybe I'm dreaming.

I am very happy for the people who were lucky and got an upgrade !

It does not take anything away from me... Of course, I wish I was part of the lucky ones, but, knowing that those upgrades exist, it it nice to dream I could get one , one day !

people are already saving $1500 with free dining, and then get upgraded to DVC where those people are not able to get free dining....really doesnt sound fair at all

I think it's neat. SSR is my home resort and I love staying there. Nice for some other people to get to experience it that might not normally get to.

DVC also sent members a Pin Code for $199 a night 1 bedrooms for SSR and OKW for friends and family that book and agree to take a DVC tour.

Disney is no different than any business, cars, hotels, airlines. No one pays the same.

You just have to accept it and move on and enjoy your trip or don't read the threads about it, if it truly upsets you.

What exactly do you mean by "these people"? Get over it people some people 'got pixie dust and other didnt. Good for them!!!

I don't think the resorts will be overcrowded as not every single person staying at a value resort has got the email to upgrade so relax. I am still waiting for mine, sorry I will be taking a room at OKW if I go to work tomorrow and find an email from disney in my inbox.

I think it's MAGICAL! Just wish I had been smart enough to book at a value with free dining and then get a fabulous upgrade rather than sitting here keeping my fingers crossed for a Disney Visa discount to come out tomorrow so I can book a mod for November.

Congrats to all of the recipients of pixie dust from Disney!

But I do understand why DVC members would be a bit upset by this.
